Post menopause bleed
« on: August 22, 2024, 06:47:07 PM »

Hi, I’m 18 months into menopause and 7 into HRT; been super lucky and everything seems to have been working well until last week   :-\, I started with Really sore boobs then a week on; I’ve started to bleed a tiny bit! Should I contact the doctor or can this be normal and just a blip? I feel absolutely fine otherwise - thanks lots in advance

Hi Pfhanson28

Depends where you were in menopause when you started HRT. Had you gone 12 months (looks like maybe 11?) without a natural period before starting? If not then you are still likely peri-menopausal in which case you can experience irregular bleeding due to your natural cycle (HRT does not shut down ovulation).

Also what type and dose of HRT are you taking? Sounds like continuous combined if you are surprised by a bleed. Normally, bleeding after 7 months without on a conti HRT should probably be investigated but it is most likely to be normal variation - your natural cycle, and potentially an imbalance between oestrogen and progestogen, depending on the product. The really sore boobs tend to suggest your natural cycle, if you haven't experienced this at other times since starting HRT.

Thank you  :), it’s 18 months since my last period, started the HRT only 7 months ago. I’m on gel and daily progesterone and was hoping as you said that the sore boobs indicates just a freak/normal cycle’ . I think I’ll hang fire and see if it stops quickly and obviously if it happens again.  Thanks lots again  :)
