Oestrogel/ Sandrena equivalent doses
« on: August 19, 2024, 05:26:06 PM »

I am seeing more and more news about updated guidelines ( on Instagram )showing 2mg of Sandrena is only a moderate dose and equivalent to 3 pumps of oestrogel. 3 mg is a high dose and equivalent to 4 pumps of oestrogel. Someone wanted to check this for themselves, can't remember who but it can be found also on British Menopause Society website. They have a paper there on updated guidelines for unscheduled bleeding dated April 2024. If you scroll through to page 41/ 42 you will find all the info.
Interestingly on another topic the guidance for utrogestan has changed and anyone on a high dose of oestrogen is now advised to be taking 200 mg daily in order to fully protect the womb. It's all in this paper so you can have read up if anyone is interested.

It's all pretty useless these equivalencies because they are just a rough guide and we all absorb things differently.

I was on 6mg Sandrena and it was no where near 12 pumps of gel. It wasn't even the same as 6 pumps of gel, to me.

I understand but they do give a bit of bargaining power if someone has recently switched to Sandrena and is not quite symptom free. Not everyone has the same experience as you. Some find Sandrena stronger for example. They are a guide is all. To say they're useless is a bit dramatic.

Also 6mg of Sandrena by the new guidelines would be equivalent to 8 pumps of oestrogel not 12.

Thanks for mentioning this, Gnatty. I'd seen the guide before but forgotten about it.

I've just this week changed from Oestrogel to Lenzetto. I had been using 3.5 pumps of gel and asked my GPS's advice on increasing or changing to patches but she recommended the spray. Interestingly she advised 3 sprays of Lenzetto but the guide says 4-5 are equivalent to 3 pumps. It'll be interesting to see how the 3 sprays go!
