Hrt suddenly stopped working
« on: August 05, 2024, 04:08:48 PM »

I’ve been evorel 75 for about a year. Every now and again I’d have a return of symptoms. These would be short lived. This time they are not going away. I don’t want to go on to antidepressants. I don’t want to have to give up work either. I’ve considered a) going to GP b) changing placing of patch ( currently stomach) c) waiting to see if a reduction in stress and anxiety will make a difference ( hospital appointment next week about gall stones) d) throw all my toys out pram and quit job, dump partner, go to an isolated area and scream. Any suggestions?

I'll find the desert island and we can scream together ;-)

It mayB that your regime needs a hike if your hormones are interfering with the HRT.

Hopefully some1 on similar will be along.

Increase oestrogen? I'd see your gp and ask for 100mg patch.

I know this is probably going to be the outcome but I’m worried that in the time it takes to get an appointment with the right doctor ( not all drs seem to understanding) I’ll be unemployed and in a deep dress I’ve state

R U able to cut a 75 patch and add a little extra a few times in the week? Not all at once as U don't want to overwhelm your levels.

In the mean time ring tomorrow to get an appt with your Nurse Practitioner or GP, U may find that appts are available with Nurses sooner than with a GP.  It mayB that you won't have a problem at all.

Get the appointment booked today then if you have enough patches add an extra third to give you 100. If not consider a private appointment if you can afford it.

Maybe others will know for definite but from what I've read this would be a bad idea as the fluctuations will make your symptoms worse.

I think that because sometimes a little added occasionally in the week can let the body know whether it's better, one can then discuss with GP.  Adding too much immediately can certainly cause symptoms to become overwhelming.

V good advice here.

You can increase easily to 100 patch. Any regular GP should be able to approve this.

But you might also want to start thinking about what happens if you need more than this (as many of us do). When you see this 'right' doctor you are waiting to see, ask what happens if you need more and if they would be prepared to prescribe higher. If not, start getting your chickens in a row now...

From someone on 12 pumps of Oestrogel and a 50 patch

Would a dedicated menopause clinic be the way to go if U don't feel supported elsewhere?

Best get onto a waiting list ASAP perhaps?  And once on a list ring to offer up for a cancellation appt.?

Are you still in peri? My provider told me that it was possible I'd need to go up a notch on my patch once I was post-menopausal and what piddly amounts of estrogen I was still producing stops. If you're running solely on the patch's estrogen now, that might need to be supplemented. I agree with the idea of taking an extra patch and adding a little extra to see if that helps? I've done that, and that is how I know unequivocally that .1 is too much and .05 is not enough. :)

Personally, I wouldn't even entertain an anti-depressant if an estrogen increase will do the trick. And old doctor of mine was VERY resistant to my going on estrogen and pushed anti-depressants. While I get they're helpful for many women, oftentimes they're used as a first-line treatment (gets us out of the doctor's office quickly!) when they shouldn't be. IMO. As always, YMMV.

Good luck! I know this is tough.
