Can i take a break from my "every day" Utrogestan?
« on: August 02, 2024, 10:08:22 AM »

I've been on Utrogestan and Sandrina gel for a few years now. Meno symptoms very much under control. However, I've been very bloated in the abdomen. I've just had a course of Omaprazole from the doctor as she suspected indigestion even though I don't think I've ever had indigestion or heartburn in my life. I've had a few days off it now and and now looking at possible other reasons that I'm so bloated. could it be my HRT?
A few years ago I used to take myself off of Utrogestan for a week to give myself a bleed but I'm now fostering a little one so have not done that for a long while only because I've got enough on my plate without the tummy cramps and heavy bleeding. Do people still do that nowadays, and could the bloating be a possible side effect of the Utrogestan? Or could it be that I'm oestrogen dominant and that's causing the tummy to look like I'm pregnant. I'm not, I've not had sex for months by the way and my hubby's had the snip  ;D
IF I have a little break of the Utro - should I lay off the Sandrina too? Sorry for the questions. I've not been on here for years but thought I'd seek advice before I see the GP again. By the way, I'm waiting for a scan of that area so at least they're taking it seriously. Thanks very much.

Is there any info in the leaflet in the box?

U could put the product names into the Search box: individually: to read the threads, make notes ;-)

I was so bloated on it, my stomach was like a huge tight drum, swollen fingers and ankles. As soon  as I came off it I was peeing like a racehorse for days and a few weeks later my stomach has gone right down and I can actually get my wedding ring on. Water retention and bloating is one of the side effects. I’m getting my shape back although still got a bit of weight to lose.

Hi

I started gel and utrogestion in January.
My meno doc told me to take the last 3 days EVERY MONTH off the utro.
She said it wouldn’t cause me to bleed, which it hasn’t, and everything resets itself by having the break.
It does help if I’m honest.
I still carry on with my 3 pumps of gel.
For the bloating, if I have it bad, I take windeze or deflatine. They really help.

You will not come to any harm from a short break from the utrogestan to see if this is causing the bloating and reflux symptoms.

This may or may not lead to some withdrawal bleeding.

There's no need to stop the estrogen too unless you want your menopause symptoms back.

If it is clearly the utrogestan, then changing to another progestogen such as slynd or mirena might be more suitable.

Please do insist on a pelvic scan and a Ca125 blood test if it isn't resolving.
