Anal and buttox pain
« on: June 11, 2024, 04:07:15 PM »

Hi just wondering if anyone has any advise or has experienced this… about 8 weeks ago I had pain in my bum that I thought could be hemmoriods… pain got worse and went to the Doc 6 weeks ago… he did an rectal exam and said all was clear… he also did a vaginal exam and said it felt full so I had a 2 week referral for a Ultrasound on my ovaries and that was all clear. Pain eased off for a while and now the last 2 weeks it is back worse than ever… I feel like something is stuck in my bum and is hurting , my tailbone hurts, back of my legs and down my legs…. Ok when moving but when sitting and lying down it’s sooo painful?

Hi , is it a sharp stabbing pain high up and fleeting in nature or a more persistent discomfort that feels like a pressure?
I’ve had your symptoms and I was eventually diagnosed with levator ani syndrome if you do a quick Google search it will tell you the symptoms, sorry I’m not much good at posting links I’m still new at this.
Sitting does make it more uncomfortable, usually walking around eases the feeling or a warm bath , seeing a physiotherapist also can help.
I take amitriptyline now and rarely get any discomfort, could be something completely different but if you doctor rules out all other probable causes it might be worth asking him/her about the above condition.

It is more persistent discomfort when sitting or lying down. Feels like something is stuck in my bum and my tailbone feels swollen. How did you get levator ani syndrome diagnosed?

It sounds possible that it could be levator ani syndrome, because I had those feelings, I went through a lot of tests including a sigmoidoscopy to rule out other causes, they did find some piles which my doctor had previously said I didn’t have they can cause that feeling of something stuck in the bum , I was sent to a physiotherapist one who specialises in the pelvic floor , when they do a examination if they find tenderness in the levator muscle plus the symptoms and absence of other causes they usually can then diagnose this condition, it could be coming from the womb though have they ruled out fibroids, they can cause a pressure type feeling,
but mine was a distinct pressure in my bum and very uncomfortable to sit and almost a constant aching feeling sometimes I had bad muscle spasms that felt like a knife high up in the rectum .

My womb was ok as when she did at the ultrasound and internal camera I asked about my lining as on HRT for POF and was told all looked ok and no mention of fibroids. I have a physio appointment at the end of the week so hoping to get some answers. This pain is making me miserable. Painkillers don’t touch the sides.

Hopefully the physiotherapist will give you some answers, good that fibroids have been ruled out that’s one thing that can be put out of the possible causes.
I know how you feel, it’s all I could think about and I was so miserable and it wasn’t exactly something I could just tell people I had , kind of suffered in silence other than telling my husband.
Painkillers never touched it for me either.
Good luck and I really hope you get some answers and some much needed relief.

Unfortunately I had it for the best part of a year , not constantly but I’d have it for months it would go and I’d think thank god relief at last, for it to return again , stress played a big part in it too because I’d focus on it which definitely amplified the feeling, when I was busy I noticed I didn’t feel it so much.
This of course doesn’t mean you will have it this long or even the same thing, it could quite possibly be just a random symptom that hangs around and then just disappears without ever knowing what it really was, I’ve had plenty of random symptoms with this whole menopause thing that simply just vanished .
The physio is definitely your best option to get answers, I really hope you get better very soon.
