JoannFran, I was given propranolol years ago when I wasn't really aware of ectopics, I was given it for anxiety with public speaking at work which was temporary. I think I only took them for a week.
The bisoprolol is a very strong drug. I was given it because I would get these weird episodes of heart racing, which resolved on hrt. They resolved first on bisoprolol, but the ectopics, no idea really, I don't think they did a lot with them. One cardiologist said they could make them more frequent because they tend to happen when the heart slows down, and bisoprolol slows the heart down. But in some people they help.
I think it's an amazing drug as it did change my anxious state at the time (physically more than mentally, such as things like racing heart, hyperventilating, etc), but I personally, if I could turn the clock back, would have only wanted to be on it a short time and then wean off. Because gradually over time I think it caused fatigue, muscle weakness, weight gain, etc. There's a lot of reports out there of this and it's a strong thing so it's not possible to fight against while on it. The doctors don't think it does this and it's less documented in their literature, more patient reports. I know its done this and I'm now working to get my fitness and energy back.
I don't want to put you off, in the short term it could give the body the 'rest' it needs. It's a great drug for that. I just wish I'd been given it with the long term warning, as the effects were gradual over time.
