Hi everyone,

I need advice please... I am 52 and I went without period for nearly 7 months (before that it was 5 months and before that one it was 3 months) now period came back and hasn't stopped. Been 19 days so far. Its not particularly heavy but when I think it's finished I cough and it starts all over again 🙁 I am not on HRT.

Any advice?

It sound quite normal for peri to me. I had this happen a year ago and bled for 5 weeks. Because you gone a while without a period, the lining builds up and then when you do eventually have a period, it can be heavy or light and be prolonged. I really don’t think it’s anything to worry about, but if you are concerned then have a word with your GP. Hope this goes some way to reassure you that all is probably normal and just the joys  of this time of life for us

Thanks for your reply...it is not heavy, some bleeding on sanitary towel but more when I wipe.

It’s definitely not just you. I felt that way when it happened to me. Mine was a light bleed like yours. I did visit the GP, but she wasn’t worried and mine eventually stopped on its own. Some GP’s will send you for a scan just to check everything is ok and some will just keep an eye on it for a while like mine. If you’re worried ask them for a scan to put your mind at rest

I’ve had this just in the last couple of weeks! Had a 41 day cycle, then some spotting and then a period that lasted 15 days, sort of medium flow but it just wouldn’t seem to stop. Then 3 days ago it did just stop! I went to the dr and I’ve asked to be referred just to get checked although I think it is just dodgy hormones! I hate the unpredictability all this brings, I feel like I just don’t know my body these days.

It's The Change - does what it says on the tin  .  After my periods disappeared I didn't stop carrying protection for 5 years ....... on an in case basis!

How do U feel overall, make sure that you don't become anaemic.

I think I will wait and see if goes on too long then I will see the GP

It’s definitely not just you. I felt that way when it happened to me. Mine was a light bleed like yours. I did visit the GP, but she wasn’t worried and mine eventually stopped on its own. I feel ok to be honest apart from putting on weight, not sleeping much, hot flushes etc etc lol. I had blood test done and my haemoglobin and haematocrit is constantly rising

So go with the flow ;-).  There is a drug: name escapes me: that a GP can prescribe if blood loss is particularly heavy, sure some1 will tell you the name

CLKD is it Tranexamic acid you’re thinking of?? I was prescribed this for many years due to very heavy periods and it helped enormously

I feel your pain ! I am 56, 2 years ago I stopped my periods but went on hrt to help my anxiety ,even though I’m on anti depressants. Everything great then a year ago started to bleed , then got gradually worse .
So I changed my hrt to evorel 100 and utrogestan 3 months ago and I’ve now bled for 3 weeks continuously.
I have had a scan and everything is fine , so I’m lost of what to do next !
Any help from anyone ,would be appreciated ! 🙏

Thanks for your replies. I was on tranexamic tablets for 16 years due to very heavy bleeding. My flow is not heavy but I will go with the flow so to speak 😉

Suffolk lass the difference with me I'm not taking HRT reason due to low platelets and DVT runs through my family.
