Boric Acid Pessaries
« on: December 18, 2023, 07:09:25 PM »

I have been on this Thrush trail for 6 months and just beginning to feel some improvement. The previous treatment fluconazole and Clotrimazole were both resistant to my Glabrata strain of Thrush. I am now using Boric Acid Pessaries purchased from the US. Have used for a fortnight and the Doctor says to continue using for a further week and then two a week as advised by the Gum clinic. I use them at night and estriol cream in the morning. I haven’t got rid of the ache completely, but it is greatly reduced. After Christmas I will take another swab to the Doctors to see if thrush has gone/cleared. Could this residual ache be part of the Atrophy? Hoping the estriol cream is working its magic. Replies appreciated.

The fact the ache is reducing must mean the inflamation caused by the thrush infection is also reducing. You've had this for so long.
Is it ok to use estriol cream with the boric acid, could it weaken the estriol and maybe you need to up the dose?

R U getting much discharge?  If so up the VA dose ..........  U can't overdose on VA treatment as the vagina will expel any that isn't soaked up the by the dry, thin, vaginal tissues.

Tnx for the update.

Thank you for responding CLKD. Thankfully I haven’t really had a lot of discharge. The Doctor said it is okay to use the Boric in the evening and estriol in the morning. Will up the dose a little as you said. Will keep you posted as to how I get on. Thanks again.

Hi Midnight Shadow,

After the first three weeks of a pessary/day you went on to 2 pessaries/week. How long for? Did you notice any difference in the pain?
My symptoms started a year ago and, like you, I had the wrong treatments for 9 months. The initial symptoms got a lot better within the first two months with the help of a pelvic floor physiotherapist, but I still feel discomfort after a fortnight of nystatin and a fortnight of boric acid. This discomfort happens mainly during my period. I haven't done a test after these treatments and, therefore, I do not know if it is due to the yeast or to any harm the infection caused to the pelvis - the vagina was swollen and very tender, which made every swab very painful!
Do you think estriol helped reducing the pain? A few doctors mentioned estrogen cream but, I guess that due to my age and to the fact that my periods are still regular, they don't think I am in perimenopause. I feel a bit lost and losing hope. Everything takes a long time and it's very difficult to get a GP appointment.
I've been taking supplements for vaginal flora and some other tablets that claim to clear Candida infections. I am SO tired of this. The simple thought of having to go to a GP again because of this makes me cringe and sad...
