Post menopause
« on: December 16, 2023, 09:34:59 PM »

Hi , I’ve not had a period in about 15 months so I’m post menopause now. Recently I’ve had a ton of egg white type discharge (the kind I would always get prior to period!)  before this I’ve been extremely dry so unsure what’s going on.. not on any HRT .. have cramp type pain too and sore breasts .. can anyone offer any advice ? Thank you

Sounds to me like you're still in peri. From one of your previous posts I see that you are in your late forties? The "12 months with no period" thing isn't set in stone, so I guess your hormones are having a Christmas party. If you are normally extremely dry, some local oestrogen treatment might be a good idea if not already using this.

The sore breasts etc is your ovaries working,I had a partial hysterectomy, ovaries kept and my breasts used to become super tender.Like Joaniepat says, nothing about menopause is set in stone,it sounds like your ovaries are still producing enough oestrogen to cause your issues

The 12 months for meno is just a term used by the nhs for safety. There are people who go longer than this and then start bleeding again, once or several times.

Menopause can be quite start stop.

I had 15 months period free before taking my first HRT aged 52, Evorel Conti, and it went badly, I hated it and stopped after 11 weeks but by then my periods had restarted. The doctor said that was due to the extra hormones being given, but they didn't stop straight away. I had periods for months afterwards and even the gynae at the menopause clinic told me she couldn't explain why I was bleeding heavily for exactly five days once a month, but it "wasn't periods" because I am definitely post meno as confirmed by a scan of my thin lining and non functioning ovaries.

Then I tried HRT again because the experts said that would help control the bleeding...no it didn't  ::) my body laughed at their schedule and continued to bleed each month when it chose to, not when they said I would.

Better to expect the unexpected in menopause. I'm 54 and fed up with the lack of accuracy in anything I've been told about HRT and menopause by the doctors.

That's the way it will be until they stop pretending they know about this stuff and do some fricking research!

Oh well said pastie supper, when I visit the dr with anything meno related,it's ME telling THEM what's what with meno symptoms,it beggars belief tbh.A few years back I told the dr what I'd read on this forum about some symptom or other I had at the time and he said......no word of a lie.......you probably best stick to the forum as they'll know more about it than me 😳😳😳😳😳

At least he admitted it. I'd rather someone like that than one who pretends they know when they don't  :(

True but still unacceptable for a dr not to know what to do 🙄
