Evening all. I picked up my usual prescription for utrogestan only to discover this evening that it is gepretix instead. Anyone else been given this? I'm worried what this new brand is.

Let us know how you find it? I hadn't heard of it but if it's a cheaper generic brand a lot of us might end up on it.

I have just been given 1 box of normal Utrogesten and new style box which is from Bessins in Spain. I really hope there is no difference. I have only just managed to get sorted out after the change in Oestrogel!!

Hi Sue,
This happened to me today and I can’t find any (except this thread) reviews of the new brand. When I queried it with the pharmacy they said that from now on, unless my prescription specifically says Utrogestan, i will be given this ‘own brand’ progesterone. I said I hoped it would be the same as Utrogestan as I’ve just hit a sweet spot with my HRT combination. She said it’s like tomato soup - same ingredients, different brand - but to be honest that doesn’t fill me with much hope, every brand tastes slightly different!!!! :)  I’d love to know how you got on with these???????

Dotty, as far as I known there's no such thing as a 'generic brand' drug, it's either generic or branded. Gepretix has different fillers, grape seed oil is one of them, so it's not exactly the same as Utrogestan, although the active ingredient is micronised progesterone. Also, a generic drug has no brand name, in this case it would be called 'Micronised Progesterone Capsule' or something like that, same as Estriol Cream and not Ovestin, for example.

This is strange because I have never come across Gepretix in Spain.  I do buy and send Progeffik for someone in the UK.

The Utrogestan I have bought here is manufactured by SEID in Barcelona.

Perhaps it's made for export only?

It's made by a British company (Exeltis) so I presume this means it's for UK supply only... if its available to cover utrogestan shortages or will replace it entirely isn't clear but I suppose those of us taking it will soon find out!

Hi NatEliA,

Thankfully I have enough of the original ones to see me through Xmas. But I will certainly let you know how I get on.
I am currently thinking about taking them vaginally rather than orally as I have realised I get a bit of heartburn on the days I am taking progesterone. x
