Hi Dorothy
Sorry to read that you have been having problems with your ears-you are not alone. I have had this issue now since turning 50 years old. 7 years later I still experience it although it has eased. I have seen countless GPs and ENTs and not one has told me it is due to hormones or menopause but I am convinced it is. I have been put on various medications which have not helped. Like you my initial symptom was the blocked ear sensation-left ear and pressure feeling. I too suffer from tinintus  buzzing and also a blowing sensation like someone is blowing into my ear.
I hope your appointment goes well

Thank you Fedfan. I appreciate your post. Sorry taken a bit to reply. I've been too poorly.

Long story short, ENT was as I feared, was no help. He did all the tests. 'Normal'  :bang: I knew it would. Ears clear and perfect. No blockage.

But my ears pain, pressure and tinitus are anything but normal and I'm in tears everyday.

Having M.E/CFS I need to lie down most of the day. This has become so painful and unbearable since pressure, fullness, plugged pain and tinitus in my ears arrived 2 months ago.

Lying down increases pressure.....if you already have awful plugged, blocked pressure feeling ears, lying down makes it feel like your eardrums are going to explode....it also increases the tinitus lying ďown from pressure....and the anxiety and stress I feel because I cannot rest properly feeling such discomfort increases the pressure too.

I'm struggling so much. Even if I'm propped up, the pressure builds as my neck at an angle puts pressure on neck and ears. I cannot rest sat up. Its too exhausting.

The pain radiates to my face, jaw, gums, teeth, neck and no one can offer any help. As to them nothing is wrong. My face was literally throbbing today as we're my teeth...huge pressure in my face with muscle twitching in my face.....just feel suffocated.

Clearly its hormonal.

I cried all day today as how can I rest as I need to every day...when this hideous symptom has now come? I'm really frightened. It's such a distressing feeling that pressure build up. Muffled hearing...noise is painful!

Plus the million other peri symptoms I have.

For the first time since Summer, I thought today for a moment that I can't go on.

Feel utterly stuck. Terrified of what's next.

At least there's no obvious blockage that would cause concern.  What did the Consultant suggest?

That feeling of pressure becomes constant. U mayB clenching your teeth/jaw = pain. Stress also causes similar tension.  The brain, as with tinnitus, switches on to anything out of the ordinary   .........    have U looked at the Tinnitus Support Group ?

Also, ligaments in the cervical spine which may become stiff and sore, can radiate throughout the spinal column especially if the neck isn't supported correctly.  I had to sleep sitting up recently due to reflux but it was so difficult the body automatically slid down the bed!

Is your OH home to support now, funeral over and done?

Thank you.

He just said it might be jaw related. That was his only conclusion. He said a mouth guard might help but I'm too ill to go to dentist. The ENT appointment wiped me out. Takes weeks to recover. Also wants me to have an MRI due to my pulsitile tinitus. That will be a big fat waste of time if I can even get there.

That's what I was scared of...that the pressure would be constant now and never go.....I can't cope with that. My life is spent lying down. I don't know how to cope now. What causes all this ear pressure in perimenopause?

Partner is home more now thanks for asking. But he's absolutely wiped out after weeks of grief and sorting things etc.

The tinitus I can sort of cope with.....

It's the pressure and plugged up feeling and pain I can't.

I'm very vigilant of trying not to keep tension in jaw.

Thanks

It's absolutely terrified me that you said this pressure will be constant now.

I'm lying here at 1am in the dark...ears feel so full of pressure that they feel they will explode and I am absolutely full of panic and am on verge of panic attack....

How do I ever lie down now or sleep with this horrific pressure? 😢

Do the symptoms become any worse in different positions?

What do U plan to do - the MRI would be a good step, could you be admitted for 2-3 days to avoid the travelling aspect of an appt.?

Could it B that you are so stressed that tension in the muscle groups mayB causing those feelings?  What do others suggest on the groups that you dip into?

My ears feel full a lot of the time - difficult to explain.  Tinnitus the same, variable.

I don't know. I've done everything possible I can do...to the detriment of my M.E no idea can suggest anything as they don't know either..how could they.

I'm exhausted trying to figure out why this is happening when I will never know. No one can tell me which is typical of it all so I'm done. It's clearly hormonal causing all this....and all the mri scans and tests will show nothing. Everything keeps saying normal. So I know its hormones.

I've just had enough. I'm too ill to deal with it anymore

Thanks for replying you seem to be the only one. Don't worry. I'm only on here coz I've no outlet. I know no one can do anything
