How long to feel better after reload
« on: September 12, 2023, 02:10:21 PM »

Hi ladies
Again looking for your wealth of knowledge. So I have been using estriol (old gynest) for 2ish years now (generally most or every other night)+ mainly getting on ok. I am supposed to have inflamed bladder too !!
Anyway end of July I was diagnosed by a+e with 'slight' infection. Got 3 day course of antibiotics. All ok till 2 weeks later + I have had 2 thrush infections in a row. So I haven't really used vaginal estrogen properly for a couple of weeks. So I used it last night but still feel burning internally + externally (I used the estriol cream externally but doesn't seem to help) How long for the burning sensation to calm down + is there any other suggestions? I'm in my bed fed up+ have a short holiday in a few weeks that I want to be able to enjoy.
Your help would be appreciated 🙏

There seems to be a lot suffering with thrush symptoms recently.

A slight infection means nowt without the urine sample being sent to a Lab., is that what the ABs were based upon?  Usually 3 days isn't enough if there is an infection.

ABs of course can cause thrush.  I swallow lots of LIVE yoghurt to reline the digestive tract from top to bottom.

Get some VA treatment up there ASAP - perhaps in the mornings ?  Or opposite to when you use the thrush medication, hopefully this has been diagnosed and treated?

We have a holiday thread too ;-)

So sorry to hear you are in so much pain. It can be difficult to know if it is thrush or VA sometimes unless you have the white discharge. I have found taking oral pessaries more effective for thrush and it meant I could carry on with the VA treatment.

As you stopped using the VA treatment for a few weeks and have had thrush, it could be a VA flare. Is it possible to get a swab test done just to rule out thrush? I tend to get thrush when I have to take antibiotics too. Now I take a probiotic daily which I have found helpful.

Do not worry if this is a VA flare. It is common after getting thrush and with regular treatment you will feel back so your usual self again. :)

So first thrush infection I got 3 oral tablets + a pessary + 2nd time got oral tablet, pessary + further 7 days of fluconazole!!!
Still trying to use the canesten external cream.  I'm currently being prescribed low dose antibiotics for 3 months as Dr thinks I have chronic UTI !
As I said last night first night back to using estrogen, just feel crap + want to be back to as normal as poss asap.

I didn't think I could still use the estrogen when on the oral meds as think I read weren't supposed to insert anything until symptoms had passed. I definitely did have thrush as swab was done.
What probiotic do you use ? I do take probiotic but just regular one from supermarket.
🙏 for relief soon as is my hubby as I have been too tired etc to make dinners etc !!!!

With your Dr thinking you may have chronic UTIs, could it be VA? VA mimics UTI's and often Drs make that mistake.

I buy the Holland & Barret probiotic.

Oh I see. I have always continued inserting the cream if I used an oral thrush tablet as I did not think they would interact. I may be wrong then.

I'm pretty sure it's due to VA as not been using anything on a regular basis for a wee while.
Urine was checked but ok (apparently chronic/embedded UTI doesn't show up in a regular urine tests.

I would be wary of using antibiotics without a UTI as it could mean you get thrush again.

Perhaps you need to go back to basics with the VA treatment? Maybe you could switch from baths to showers, wash only using emollient, use emollient as a barrier cream throughout the day etc.

It's a urogyn who said about the long-term antibiotics but I actually emailed him earlier to ask about the possibility of them causing thrush so waiting for his reply.
I only have a shower + use Dermol but thanks for reminder I can use Dermol during the day too.

Flossieteacake, is it the 20 billion or 3 billion ones you take ? I imagine the 20 billion ones are stronger/better ?

You can carry on with local estrogens when swallowing the oral tablet, it's the pessary that you should not use any other products with according to the leaflet. However, people have said on other posts with thrush (and there's been an awful lot lately, including myself) that their doctor said to continue with the Vagifem etc the day after taking the pessary.
If you're sure the thrush has gone as that causes burning too, then I would double up with the local estrogen for a few days to give a boost as the thrush will have messed up your ph balance and left everything sore and inflamed, including your bladder. I took 2 vagifem a night and ovestin externally for a week. When you feel comfortable again then go back gradually to your usual regime. Try and build up your immune system again as this helps with keeping thrush at bay and avoid stress if possible as this will lower your immune system too.
I was back to square one with my VA after 3 months of recurring thrush and just getting back on track now. Thrush is very under estimated and can cause havoc.
Try ibuprofen as that will help with the inflamation and also is antimicrobial so can help prevent thrush. I was told to take with fluconazole as it helps kill the Candida cells and reduces the after effects when the candida dies off. Hope this helps.
