Hello Pink68

I haven't had any problems with Sandrena gel and I am currently using one 1mg sachet daily.

I was previously using Oestrogel and  had been prescribed six pumps daily, three in the morning and three at night but I found this awkward and the gel took ages to dry.  I was switched to three 1mg sachets which was the equivalent dose and was easier to manage as the gel is thicker.

I assume that if you absorb one type of gel you are likely to absorb another type equally well although I haven't had my blood levels tested since moving to Sandrena. I did have levels tested when using six pumps of Oestrogel and my oestrogen numbers were 600.

I hope this helps you in some way.

Take care.

K.

It's a highly personal thing. For example I used to have Estradot patches, but gel was promoted and recommended highly on here, so I thought I would give it a try and was given Sandrena.  As Kathleen says it is thicker than estrogel but is also much stickier so takes a while to dry, (compared with estrogel which is quite runny like testogel - the formulation is the same apart from the active ingredient) but is more concentrated so you need less of it for the same dosage of estradiol.

However my flushes came back and because patches worked well ( lack of efficacy wasn't the reason for my changing to gel) and I didn't want to spend time trying to tweak the dosage when I could just go back to patches, so I did. After trying various different patches - not through choice but because of the shortages  - when I was given different alternatives by the doc, and changed every time there was a shortage ( except for estraderm which I drew the line at!) - I was finally given Evorel and have stuck (!) with these even though I'm sure I coud get Estradot again - because I think they're really good and I'm sure I get more oestrogen from them.

So really, go for it with an open mind and see how you get on, is my advice!

All the best!

I started with Sandrena and it worked well, but I am now on patches as I find them more convenient, I do not have to wait for gel to dry etc. Hope it will work well for you.

Hurdity, could you let us know about your experience with Estraderm, because of Estradot shortages they have now prescribed this and it is massive comparing to Estradot. Is there anything else you noticed?

Hi Stella 2 - yes MAHOOSIVE! It was like having a poly bag attached to my butt! After the tiny estradot I couldn't cope with it, and it didn't seem to stick well I felt. That was all - I didn't use it long enough to notice anything about symptoms and as I was probably only given one or two months ( at the time the shortages were acute) I asked to change as per my previous post.

That's not to say it won't suit others - just a personal thing after years of estradot....

Thank you Hurdity, the same here, although I have a feeling that Estraderm is a bit stronger, or better absorbed in my case as my breasts became tender. I am cutting a bit off and hope that they will prescribe Estradot again after I run out. So massive though and the feel is so different! X
