Am I wrong?
« on: April 18, 2023, 05:39:37 PM »

I switched my dr recently bc I found her to be too intrusive into my private life.

Long story short my ex husband left me when I was 9 months pregnant with my son who is now 13.

I was 39 at the time. Since his birth I have never dated nor had any desire to go out with anyone. My life has been about my child and my career.

My dr constantly pushed me to begin dating and made odd claims that it would be good for me medically, emotionally  and physically.

I just turned 52 and still have no desire to date. However at my last and final appointment with her she was making a joke about not having to do another HPV test bc she knows my status is still the same.

I found it very unprofessional in many ways. I can take jokes like anyone else but just did not understand this pressure to start a relationship with anyone. She argued that I’m teaching my son that I am reliant upon him. That’s the furthest thing from the truth. I’m showing him that I can be independent.

Am I wrong to switch drs just bc of this?  She otherwise did a good job. She just became invasive (yes I know ironic choice of words). 🤷🏻‍♀️

I would change surgeries.  This is way beyond what even a psychologist might ask - unless a client is 'there' for sexual problems etc..

U R not 'wrong'.  Why does the GP believe that she needs to ask those questions?

You were right to change to another GP if you did not feel comfortable with the previous one. I think her observations and comments were intrusive and unprofessional, especially if you had not asked for her opinion.
Best of luck with the new one.

Be assured you did absolutely the right thing in changing doctors.  She was far too familiar with you and totally unprofessional.

@clkd Good Lord I doubt it- 🤣

@ayesha- thank you - it was rather odd. I get the curiosity. My friends and most people I meet give me the side eye when they find out I haven’t dated in 13+ years. It just wasn’t my priority. I have friends who did choose to remarry /date after divorce and are extremely happy. So everyone has to do what’s best for them. 👍🏻
