FIT test result number
« on: March 16, 2023, 05:21:44 PM »

Hi, I’ve reading reading (lots) online and it appears that a FIT test gives a number result. Had no idea about this and anything at 10 or below is given a negative result and above 10 is a positive. So, how do I find out what my number was in my recent test…..it may have been only 12 or 200. The person I spoke to at the clinic didn’t appear to know much about it and said 1-10 was my pain threshold……!!! Don’t think we were on the same page.

Why do you need to know, what difference will it make to you other than make you more anxious. You’re reading too much into it all and it’s not something most of us would want or need to know. Be glad you have an upcoming colonoscopy and being well looked after.

Relax, chill out and think about your upcoming holiday!

I agree with Ayesha,if your test is negative, why do you want to know the numbers? I've once had a positive but after a colonogram it was all clea,so probably a pile but here in Scotland your tested every couple of years from50 or 55 and a negative is a negative and that's all I care about x

My FIT was “abnormal “ which apparently is positive. I’m scheduled for a colonoscopy on the 20th April, been worried and anxious for over 5 weeks now and still another 10 days to wait. The wait is dreadful. Now the junior doctors are striking and I’m praying that the procedure isn’t delayed !!

I'm sorry you've had such a long wait. It's so hard to keep the worry at bay but not long now. Did you manage to get away on holiday?

Can you ring your Dr,when mine came back abnormal, nearly had a meltdown BUT apparently there is a high % that come back like that,my Dr said he was pretty sure all would be ok,these FIT tests pick up the tiniest bit of blood,so if you have an inner pile it could just be that. From the people who have an abnormal test,it's a tiny amount who have anything sinister, please do let us know how you get on x

Thankyou Taz and Jaypo, I’m away on holiday right now, it has been lovely but the health situation has impacted my holiday, I can’t lie. I’ve often been short tempered and sulky and tearful…..husband very supportive but no amount of reassurance stops the “what if…..” from creeping in. I hesitate to say, as I’m a firm believer in preventative measures, but to do a bowel screening test, especially just before a long awaited holiday……well I’m not sure I’d do it again. I’ve had six weeks of worry, fear and anxiety, which if the colonoscopy turns out to be “clear” has certainly impacted on my general. I would have preferred my holiday in blissful ignorance. However if the outcome isn’t good then I’m glad I got tested early……….it’s a no win, or win win

I totally feel for you SKKB. The waiting is absolutely dreadful and I don’t always believe Drs and other healthcare professionals realise how much stress and worry waiting for test results causes! I am always in the same worry boat waiting on mammogram and smear results! That little voice takes over !! I am keeping everything crossed for you that it is nothing nasty and you get good news . 🤞

Oh what a shame it's ruined your holiday, like elliebee says,I really think Drs forget how some of us go into total panic,my Dr thankfully was very reassuring and turned out he was right, nothing to worry about.Have you seen any blood in your poo? If not the chances are it's been the tiniest trace, even if you have and it's been bright red, again the chances are it's a pile or a little vein has burst,I KNOW this won't stop you worrying,I was sick until I got my results but if you check out how many of these tests come back abnormal it is fairly high but they have to rule out anything nasty and the FIT test is the first line of defence

I haven’t seen anything in my poo and believe me I’ve been checking (another unwelcome holiday add-on 🤣), but I didn’t notice anything amiss before the test either, just become paranoid however it looks, sorry TMI. Mentally exhausted, want to get home now

That's why the FIT test is important as it picks up microscopic blood that we just can't see. When do you start the prep?

Start prep on 17th, travel home 18th, home 19th…..procedure 20th. Fingers crossed it isn’t affected by the strikes though 🤷‍♀️

The prep is usually taken the day before the procedure.
Hope you're travelling with a portable loo cause you're going to need it!!   :o

Ayesha I think the prep medication is the day before but the strict diet begins two days before? I hope so anyway!

My instructions were no food after 12pm the day before the procedure. The first of the prep is then taken and within 2 hours you're heading to the loo.
This has been my experience recently unless things have changed.
