When I feel it’s built up (or that I need a break) I just feel a bit anaesthetised, is the best way of describing it, like it’s hard to get going in the morning, hard to motivate myself, like I’m breathing really shallowly, and I find it hard to get to sleep. It might not have built up, it might be that my own progesterone levels are high at that time and making it feel that way. Don’t worry, when you take it you will know if it feels right or not and whether you need to make adjustments. I would give it time though to figure it out and tweak it. Nothing really bad has happened solely due to my utrogestan. The breathing problems I had, I can keep at bay by having my window open a couple of inches at night funnily enough.

I don't often disagree with Hurdity but if you want to sleep and you can't because you feel like you have had twenty coffees, then that is absolutely too high oestrogen. Well documented on many hysterectomy and surgical menopause support websites. Low oestrogen is generally when you can actually fall asleep but then you wake up and can't get back to sleep so very disturbed nights. When you can't actually fall asleep at all that is quite a different matter.

hi gnatty

yes i agree that i think my oestrogen now is too high. i just hope it gets sorted now ive reduced my oestrogel. ive reduced it to 3 so fingers crossed. ive put on over 1 stone since starting hrt so i think i'll be getting some estrogen from my fat cells now as well.

i intend to take the utro orally tonight. i have tinnitus and ive read a few posts that it can make tinnitus worse so i hope i'll be ok xxx

I very much agree with Gnatty, having experienced just this (too high Estrogen) myself over December and January. As Gnatty said that was always heart thumping and stimulated feeling stopping me getting to sleep. Low Estrogen for me has always been getting to sleep fine but waking up at 3am wide awake (usually with night sweats but not always) and unable to get back to sleep xx

hi Gilla999

i dont know its all got me stumped to be honest.

i went to 4 pumps in dec. jan i actually slept ok but the last few days were awful and my boobs were getting so sore and heavy.

i was sure it was too much gel so i dropped down to 3 see how i get on.

i just want to have a consistent nights sleep. 6 hrs a night would be amazing

i started taking my utro orally at night but im so scared it'll make my tinnitus worse.

anyway onwards and upwards as they say xx

Hi disco girl, I don’t see any reason why utrogestan would worsen your tinnitus but even if it did I think it would be reversible by stopping the utrogestan. Have you been to your gp about your tinnitus? I had it for a few months a few years ago and it was due to ear wax due to too much earplugs use. I looked up tinnitus this morning and it can be caused by anxiety apparently. It’s not usually permanent I don’t think unless it’s due to mechanical causes such as a job that involves sustained noise levels. I have limited knowledge but that’s what I can gather from what I’ve read and experienced and seen others experience.xxx

hi katherine

thanks for your reply.

ive had the tinnitus since last feb and my gp knows about it. had my ears checked and no wax.

i had an audiometric test hearing perfect but i suspect its noise induced from my younger more hedonistic days!!!its only in one ear and isnt too intrusive.

tonight will be my second night on taking the utro orally. i was shattered last night so i slept for 6 hrs and ive reduced the gel to 3 pumps so i shall see how i get on.

thanks so much for taking the time to reply you have been very kind xx

I can’t help thinking that your tinnitus would have started long ago if it was down to loud noise. The fact that it’s recently started makes me think it’s another cause, maybe hormonal or emotional, and that therefore it is reversible. I hope you don’t mind me saying this, it’s just my thoughts and want to reassure you. But as you said it’s not too intrusive so that’s good as well. Xxx
