Good experiences with Evorel Conti
« on: January 28, 2023, 01:30:47 PM »

Hello all.
I'm 58, no periods for 8 years and have just been prescribed Evoril Conti for my menopause symptoms.  I also have oseoporosis which isn't improving after 3 years on Risedronate, so I'm hoping that HRT may help with that too.
I've been looking in to Evoril, and am now a bit worried about the number of horror stories re bleeding.  I can't use pads as I have Lichen Schlerosis, so bleeding would be a big problem for me.  I'm less concerned that any bleeding in first six months would panic me, as I've recently had a ployp removed and the scan and biopsy were normal.
Does anyone have any positive experiences please?  I'm seriously considering not even trying the patches I've been prescribed as I can't face the thought of bleeding again.
Thanks in advance for any views.

Most people are perfectly fine on most forms of hrt. You get a skewed view on here because most of us are here because we're the ones who have had problems. Chances are you will be fine on evorel conti but as you have been without oestrogen for so long you could start on a lower dose by cutting them in half. If you do have problems with bleeding you might consider a mirena.

Thanks Amerififer and Sheila99.
Half a patch may be a good thing to start with, as a big hit of hormones after so many years may be a step too far.  iI've seen conflicting advice re whether you can cut a patch in half, but found an an NHS site where it told you how to (it was for teenagers who needed patches to help them with puberty).
I was so excited that I've actually been prescribed HRT at my age, but wish I'd read up more on it first, as I'm feeling quite down now. Ironically, in the time since I first raised it with my Dr to getting it prescribed, some of my symptoms (hair loss in particular) seemed to have improved, but the worsening oesteoporosis swung it for me.
Fingers crossed that I can tolerate it.

Been on Evorel  conti for years. I still have womb but no ovaries, so no bleeding. Half a patch twice a week works well for me.

For osteoporosis I think the recommendation is 50 so the full patch but you can work up to that.

As others have said, it can take a bit of tweaking to get things right. I was on Conti, and it made me bleed too. I had a polypectomy back in 2017. Came off HRT for 2.5 years and was period free when I went back on Evorel Conti.

I’m now on Evorel 50 with Utrogestan 100. I personally don’t mind if a bleed occurs as my womb lining seems to be 5mm thickness, which is normal for me- I’ve had 2 scans and a biopsy and no problems other than the polyp.

I use a menstrual cup and clean it twice in a day. Is that an option for you if you do get a bleed? Far better and less messy than pads, and better than tampons too - no wet string…

I've been on Evorel Conti for close to 6 months. Overall I am very pleased with it.
My hot flushes, which came on hard and fast right in the middle of the hot summer last year were gone within 2 weeks. Joint and muscle pain that had been really debilitating was gone within a couple of months.
I had a full on bleed for 7 days in month 2, 2 days of spotting in month 3, 2 episodes of spotting in month 4 and nothing for the last 2 months. They say you can bleed during the first 6 months whilst your body adjusts so that seems to fit with my experience.
The only thing that hasn't really improved is the lack of get up and go and general lethargy. I've actually just added an extra half patch today to see if that helps. Could be a mistake but it's got to be worth a shot!
Hope you find what works for you.

Thanks to everyone for your responses.  I spoke (well, did an enconsult!) with the Dr re cutting the patch in half.  She referred it to the pharmacist who said not to do this.  The Dr did say that I could try other options that would allow the dose to be adjusted (I assume she means gel and tablets).  So, I may just take the plunge with full patch and see what happens.  I can cope with my meno symptoms, but the worsening oesteporosis is worrying me, so any side effects of the patches need to be weighed up against that.  I have a six week Greek island hop hol planned from end of May, so hope that everything settles down by then as bleeding would be a nightmare.  A recent scan showed a thin endremetrios, so I'm hoping that works in my favour.

When I started Evorel Conti the menopause consultant instructed me to use half patches first. I moved to full after about 2 months.
