I think my last blood pressure check was 3- 4 years ago and it was normal.

My last BP check was 3 years ago, I remember it was high in the Dr surgery but checking at home I was running at an average 140/82 which at the time was considered OK.

This time it's significantly higher.
No I didn't have any bloods done. However, last year I had loads of blood tests for various issues I was having, so Dr knows w my cholesterol is good.
Good luck with the call.

Call went well and like you GP wants me to start meds. 2.5mg Ramprimil (think that’s how it’s spelt)! No bloods before starting as had these 12 months ago and kidney function all good. Having a routine ECG tomorrow at Drs. Then a blood test in 3 weeks after starting meds. Have to monitor blood pressure at home 3 weeks after starting meds to see if dose working. I am 52 with a family history of high BP and vascular dementia. Maternal grandmother died from heart attack at 65. As all my other stats good and I eat healthily, exercise a lot, don’t smoke and drink sensibly (most of time 🤣) the GP didn’t think lifestyle changes would reduce my BP enough. Obviously I will improve lifestyle further. I’m not a fan of taking meds and hope they work and I don’t get side effects 🤞 So, we are in a very similar boat.

Hi Elliebee

I just wondered how you were getting on with your medication (if you don't mind me asking). I'm booked in to wear the 24 hour monitor next Monday/Tuesday.

Has you bp started to come down? I hope so.

Hi Lynda07
I’m doing ok on meds . 2.5mg Ramipril. Can feel a bit light headed at times. But I think this can be a side effect which eases - I hope so anyway! I’ve not measured by BP so I’m not sure if it’s come down or not. Have a blood test next week (routine after being on meds for 10 days). So
I’ll get it checked then.
You may find that yours had reduced with life style changes . 🤞

That sounds positive Elliebee, thanks for replying and I hope you continue to get on ok with the tablets in general.

Thank you for asking. My BP has come down slightly, but I'm still getting the odd day at stubbornly high.
What I don't understand are the fluctuations, this morning it was 152/91, followed by 143/78, then 129/84, all within 10 minutes. I'm supposed to record the lowest.
I have to see the gp 2 to 3 weeks after starting meds.

The fluctuations you mention are exactly as I have when taking my BP, your readings there could have been mine! I don't know why it can come down so quickly, but as long as it does I suppose that's what matters. Just record the 129/84, it's very respectable 🙂.

That's very reassuring to know that I'm not alone with the fluctuations  :)

I'm on Lercanidipine 10mg. It's a calcium-channel blocker.
