My dad was on amitriptyline for rheumatoid arthritis pain but needed an SSRI (citalopram) for his depression. He was told he had to taper off the amitriptyline first due to the danger of high blood pressure by mixing the two (which could remain high even after stopping the two drugs) and also the risk of serotonin syndrome. I think that's what it was called. He decided that he would be even more depressed if he stopped the amitriptyline so didn't bother with the SSRI. Taz x
