👋 CLKD. Mum got home from hospital on Monday (with 4 care visits every day). She had delirium, severe water retention and incontinence on admission.
She's still quite poorly. The various health conditions are taking its toll. Picking up a wheelchair tomorrow to, hopefully, be able to get her out for a wee while. Incontinence issues and exhaustion are just awful to see  :-\
I've got little to say about the "thoroughness" or lack of should I say of the "carers" in attendance. Making toast, ready meal, cup of tea and giving mum her meds is just about the extent of each visit. Forget about "washing down below" or changing soiled sheet!
Songbird to the rescue!
I promised not to rant so sorry about that  :-\

Carers will do the washing down below if specifically asked Songbird. I know we shouldn't have to ask but they will do it. Might have to forego the toast making though  ::)

Care in the Community  >:( . I could write a book.

MayB have a chat with them to find out their time schedules etc..  R U able to decide between them, you and your Mum which issues should be dealt with at each visit.  Hopefully but unlikely that the same will attend each time.

R they qualified to give out medication  :-\

Would the District Nurse be available ?  Did your Mum have a care package B4 discharge?  Remember that the more you take on, the more the State will let you do!  You rant away!  I'll bump the other threads ;-) [if I can find them]

Thanks Limpy. I'll leave a note asking for the specific things mum needs help with. I thought it would be obvious but apparently not. I had already specified what was required b4 discharge.
Thing is - mum can make toast, pop a meal in microwave and make tea.
She needs help with personal care, prompting with meds and dressing and undressing but they seem keen on keeping her in her pyjamas!
Should carers be changing soiled sheets? I did it today as soon as I got to mum's but really thought it would be something they would do  :-\
Just noticed you had replied CLKD  ::).
Mum has 2 blister packs for meds. They can hand the pills to mum and ensure she takes them. District nurse was at the house today. Mum has bed sores so she tended to that.
I insisted on a care package before discharge. I was pretty assertive. I met some resistance but I was having none of it! I made it clear what care mum needed but, in reality, very little of the actual needs are met but a kind of generic care is given (and it's simply not what mum needs).
Thanks for listening ladies  :foryou:

Many of these 'care' companies have generic systems in place.  Also often the girls are so rushed that they dash between clients doing as little as they feel necessary.

Bed sores in a care system are reportable.  I would be writing to the Director of the Hospital to find out why these occurred.  In a care/nursing home situation the Company can be taken to Court!

And yes, soiled sheets should at least be removed from the bed and fresh linen put on.

Not a lot.  yet  ::)
