Just curious how many women here add an extra pump or have a higher patch dose when they take Utrogestan or progesterone via some other method. I know Davina adds a pump to her patch but I’m not sure if it’s the same phase. I’m discussing this with my private doctor now, who wants me to wait a bit and then we’ll see how another cycle or two goes. I was too high on 75 patch, felt much better on 50, but the second round of Utrogestan on the lower dose I’m getting heart palpitations which may be because it’s when my estrogen is lower and the dose has been lowered. The only other symptom I’m getting is massive burping!! It’s obscene! And pretty constant. I definitely think I was too high estrogen before so I’m not looking to increase it for the whole month.

I don’t now but I did trial adding an extra pump whilst taking Utrogestan. I also tried adding the extra pump for the first 7 days after stopping Utrogestan thinking that may help the withdrawal blues, it did.
Sounds like you’re perfect dose is in between a 50 and 75mcg patch. Can’t help with the burping!

Thanks Victoria. That’s interesting you say that because my doctor, forgetting I have a box of 75 left, said I could cut a 50 in half to add, or in a quarter which would make it somewhere between 50 and 75. She did say she’d advise I wait it out before adding it so 3 months pass, which I will do. I see her 4 months after my last appointment, so in 2 months. It’s not so drastically bad I can’t wait, I do feel best week 1 & 2 of my cycle when really I have no complaints. Thanks again

I get fatigue on utro and it feels as though I need more oestrogen. I tried adding another pump during utro but it made no difference to me. I think your doc is right to give this dose time to settle first then maybe try it and see if it works for you. For me I think it was just too much prog as this was in peri, now I rarely have cycles of my own I feel OK til day 8 of utro. I don't get withdrawal symptoms but do feel lousy for a couple of days after finishing utro. No idea about the burping.

Thanks Sheila. Yes, definitely waiting just wanted to really tell her about palpitations just in case and she mentioned a dose tweak later on for us to consider.
About the burping, apparently it can be a symptom of low estrogen usually alongside bloating which I also have although it’s slightly better now. It is interesting how long it can take for things to resolve. Some symptoms went quick.

I hope this isn’t derailing the thread, I’ve reacted differently to progesterone every month. I put a lot of thought into getting estrogen to settle but I didn’t expect to get such varied results from taking the same dose of  Utrogestan on the same days and at the same time of day. I am wondering if the varied results are due to estrogen dose and delivery method changes.
ATB, your palps sound related to you being in a lower estrogen part of your cycle, apart from the burping have you noticed any other differences during this Utrogestan period?
Thanks.

VictoriaV are you peri? If you are it's probably down to your own peaks and troughs. The only bright side is that it gets easier to manage as you progress to meno.

Thanks Sheila, I’m 10 months on HRT/into peri. I’m so hoping for another month of no progesterone side effects but won’t hold my breath!

Not derailing at all Victoria, feel free to bring up whatever!
No I have had other symptoms all pretty much go now, just the heart palpitations and burping, the former being completely new- not had before I started HRT. I was waking in the night with horrendous anxiety and crying a lot on the higher 75 patch.
From reading here it really seems the Utrogestan phase affects a lot of us but maybe because we are adjusting estrogen dose and method as you say? When I first took it I had a lot more discomfort, like bad bloating, emotional, not constipation but slower digestion. That seems to all have gone except a more rounded tummy still and suddenly palpitations. I agree, it’s the luteal phase that I’m noticing, it was on day 7 of taking my 14 days of Utrogestan- my period is coming 3-5 days before I finish Utrogestan. I suddenly got it, at night and when exercising. I can handle it, I just want to know if I should adjust but we won’t know for a few months. The first Utrogestan phase after lowering was fine, but that was about 12 days after dropping the dose. I’m assuming estrogen was still higher then.

Are you taking utro orally or vaginally? Vaginally usually sorts out gut related problems.

Thanks Sheila, I thought I read that here and I’m taking it orally. How do I say this… does it affect discharge? Or, anything else?

Oral progesterone is renowned for acid reflux and that in turn can indirectly cause heart palpitations.
It might improve if you don’t take it so close to your evening meal, say 5’ish?
Taking it vaginally may solve this but my specialist did warn me that it can cause thrush taken this way.
Seems like we need it injected straight into our uterus  :D

As awful as middle of night anxiety with palps  and crying episodes are horrendous symptoms it’s good that you’ve been able to identify the cause and rectify it quickly.
I’ve had an episode of bloating in the middle of a utro cycle too, mine was on my thighs, not sure if that’s water retention or bloating but really uncomfortable. Like you I’ve bled before utro cycle ends and had one really emotional month. Pretty sure all related to Utro.
Taking it vaginally has helped me hugely but I do miss that sleepy feeling I got taking it orally!
