Davina's programme..
« on: May 02, 2022, 09:24:39 PM »

Well ladies. What did you think of Davina's documentary tonight? I quite enjoyed it. Much of what she said I was already aware of but it was good to get confirmation 👍
A real "shockaroony moment" for me  however, was when she was filming in my own Doctor's surgery!! Couldnae believe it  :o
They kept that quiet  ;D

What a shock re your own surgery! Are they good there?

Overall a good programme which will get many ladies thinking which is great.

Just got to get the awful supply chain working for us all, which will be a fight and a half. X

Yep. I'm sure lots of women will be better informed now..
I have to say, Marchlove, my surgery is really good. 15 GPs (and Dr Helen that was on the programme) leads on the menopausal front. They've obviously got the utrogestan issue sorted in Scotland because I'm getting it no problem..  ;)

Yep that's true. There seems to be certain areas all over Britain that are experiencing these dreadful shortages  :-\ x

I thought it was really good, however as with the last documentary, I would have liked to have seen it as a 3 part series covering various aspects in more detail

The brain scan was interesting, it was a real shocker to a younger friend of mine who is in the early stages of peri.

I'll quiz a few colleagues and friends who are less informed to see what they thought of it. When you already know quite a lot I think your brain fills in any gaps

Interesting how hormones may be linked to dementia.  Apparently 'brain fog' is common in pregnancy so it stands to reason that as hormone levels drops, the brain is again affected.

I didn't dream it then  ;D

I was disappointed actually.  The programmes try to cover too much in too shorter time!

Hi, I’m not new to menopause and I must have started perimenopause in my early to mid 40s. I am now almost 6 years post-meno, 55 years old and was shocked that the brain activity showed such a decline. I suppose it is too late for me to go on HRT that would make a difference to how I feel? :'( :'(

Can I offer you some hope Tracy?
I am 57 and was perimeno at a time when Doctors really didn't consider prescribing HRT as a rule for perimenopausal women. I luckily negotiated my way through perimeno with a need only for treatment for anxiety (my only issue) but I have only, fairly recently, experienced the flushing, dry vagina, palpitations, brain fog etc. I am 5 years postmeno and I have been on HRT patches, progesterone and vaginal pessaries for the past 6 - 7 weeks and I can confirm improvement in ALL symptoms. Everything has improved but I have to report that tinnitus is new to me. However  I'll take that if I can feel pretty good otherwise.
I realise that everyone is different. I just wanted to share my experience.  ;)
My GP advised that starting HRT within 10 years of last period is fine. That's good enough for me x

It isn't too late at all, there are people on here in their 60s and 70s on hrt. It has most benefit in the early years but it could still help you. What symptoms do you have?

Hi Tracy  :welcomemm:

It should never be too late!  If you can understand the possibilities of side effects and contra-indication, then go for it.  U may require a referral to an NHS Menopause Clinic.  MayB keep a mood/food/symptom diary would be useful?  Let us know how you get on.  There is also the Daisy website for 'early menopause' advice.

I have symptoms which consist of hot flushes, night sweats, sore mouth, vaginal dryness ( which I am on Vagifem for) but the most concerning symptom for me is the almost constant anxiety. I have put myself on a news diet! I have been on fluoxetine for 9 years without a review of dosage.
