Breast lump
« on: April 14, 2022, 05:38:46 PM »

Evening

Found a lump in bed last night, rang GP this morning. She saw me this afternoon and is 99% sure it’s a cyst. I have been referred to Breast Clinic on 27 April.
I’m panicking and feel anxious as hell now.

Just needed to get it off my chest  :-\

What does the lump feel like? Look on the nhs site,it explains the difference between cysts and anything nasty.Does it move beneath your fingers? Or Is it very hard & fixed ? I get lumps in my breast all the time,it's very common as we get older,so chances are it IS a cyst but glad you're getting it checked out

I'm not surprised you are worrying but I don't think GPs offer that much false reassurance, so if she's 99% sure it's a cyst then that's a good start

I've got a fibroadenoma the size of a marble that my GP suspected was a cyst. Equally benign

It's good that you get fast tracked for breast lumps so you won't have too long to wait

Hi

Thanks for your replies.

Sometimes it feels soft, sometimes it feels harder. It’s long like a small sausage!

GP said not to lose sleep over it but that’s easier said than done for me. I’m a terrible worrier.

I’m glad she referred me on the 2WW anyway though.

Ah that's what I had Arc73,they removed mine but it was benign, they only removed it because I have quite a few close family members that have had breast cancer.
A tumour wouldn't go soft and hard like that, cysts fill up with fluid, which will make them feel hard (ish) at the start but then they go fluidy and feel softer, don't keep pressing on it or you will make it painful.Learn to feel what they feel like,go onto that NHS site,it's very informative,I'm forever getting cysts but now know what to feel for. Please let us know how it goes x

Also had a number of breast cysts and had them drained.  Pretty sure your GP would not have said what she said unless she was certain.  Hope all is ok; I'm sure it will be, though you will worry naturally.

Yes, I’ve also had cysts and even had one removed. Every time I have a mammogram the radiologist will comment on the neat scar! Of course you are worried, but as the others say, it’s unlikely you would have been told it was a cyst by your GP if she thought it was something more sinister. When my GP thought the lump I found was something to worry about, I was fast tracked. It was a cyst again.

I have been on your situation. Worried sick convinced it was BC. It was a cyst and all that worry had been pointless. I know it won't stop you worrying but do try, most lumps turn out to be OK. How quickly did it it appear? Mine was surprisingly big in a short period of time.

Thank you all. I’m sort of calming down now!
It appeared quickly I think. I’m regular at examining mystic and didn’t have it last month.
It’s definitely softer x

Morning ladies

Really starting to panic about my appointment on Wednesday. Feel ill today.
Just really needed to tell someone. Hubby keeps saying don’t worry but I can’t help it!

Thank you

It's natural to feel this way,EVEN after all the reassurance from us,I'd be exactly the same,we can't unfortunately control our brains, you MUST let us know how you get on,how is the lump doing?

Make a list of your worries to take with you, get DH to jot down the answers.  If you don't understand, ask, ask, ask.

I had a lump which had changes at the margins, so underwent lumpectomy, precautionary radiation for 4 weeks: still here!  It's the not knowing for me, once we had a diagnosis, we could get on: that's me, the Surgeon, his team, DH ...........   if you do need anything surgical done, wear a nightie that buttons down the front ;-).  Quicker for those examinations when the Drs do their Rounds.

It will be a cyst. The c ones don't grow that quickly. By Wednesday afternoon you will be wondering why you let it wind you up so much (but advising someone else is easy, I couldn't control the panic either  :().
