Are athletes 'too' fit at times?


Commonwealth Games track cyclist John Paul has died aged 28, Scottish Cycling has announced.

Paul earned a reputation as one of Scotland's most promising talents after becoming world junior sprint champion in 2011.

Also a double European champion at junior level, Paul would go on to represent Scotland at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

"John was a wonderful person on and off the bike," Scottish Cycling said.

The lifestyle to be a pro cyclist is extreme, I’m always shocked just how skinny they are  :-\ track cyclist are a different build, all power.  Its very young only 28  :'(

Which race has been affected?  Caught up now: 1 from concussion, the rest from various viruses.  They are riding close to the edge so probably have no resistance!

Yep watching now.  Where did he get that energy boost from  :o.  It makes me tired, watching  ;D.  Sometimes they are over fit, with no resilience .........

Cav did it - can't remember which Event, he was the 1st Briton and the oldest man to win it.

Sadly though:

Sonny Colbrelli required defibrillation following Monday's collapse at the Volta a Catalunya, say his team.

Italian Colbrelli, 31, was attended to by medics behind screens near the finish line before being taken to hospital in Girona by ambulance.

Tnx.  So he had ABs to help?  I remember Froome having ABs when he had an infection: however, when does a drug become 'enabling'?  If an athlete requires ABs or pain relief, then they aren't fit to complete ?
