Work stress
« on: December 05, 2021, 09:39:15 AM »

Hi ladies,

I've posted a couple of times and have a lot going on with peri issues and other stuff (as many of us do). My job is high pressure with managerial duties which have increased considerably due to staffing issues and Covid.  Senior management haven't done very well through the pandemic and I feel it's become acceptable (to them) to delegate more and more to me but not listen to my concerns.  Nor have they really paid heed to my own health issues which were known and discussed with Occupational Health. I've been off sick for a few days (not like me) and my intention was to go back sooner rather than later as I know it gets harder the longer you're off. At the same time the thought of returning to the same situation and conditions feels unbearable. I'm tempted to take longer to truly gather my strength and to get some advice on voicing how disappointed I am and how staff wellbeing doesn't seem to be a priority.  My hope is I can help others by being a voice for change. (Unfortunately leaving isn't an option at the moment and I mostly enjoy my job).  I'd be interested to hear of others' experiences or viewpoints. Has anyone else been through similar and been able to get back on the horse as it were?

Hi! How large is the Company?  There should be a protocol if it's more than 200 people I think.

Could you jot down your work load pre-Covid and how much more you are finding on your desk?  Suggest that *you* are going to delegate any work that you feel isn't going to be achieved within, say, 3 days of it landing?

You can't be sacked for saying 'no'.  After all, it's to the Companies benefit to have happy, healthy, staff ;-). Do they have a menopause plan in place?

If you go back earlier, then it doesn’t send out any signals that something is wrong - particularly if you are rarely off sick.
I presume you would need to get a sick note from the doctor if you are off for more than 7 days which again may flag up there is an issue?
Do you have a ‘back to work’ interview in which you can raise the issues?

I am in a similar position job-wise but fortunately without the work being pushed down to me. I wish I had realised I was peri-menopausal during the past few years as I could have raised it. For me, I would have gone through Health and Safety and HR.
I’m fortunate that since I have gone into surgical menopause, one of our H&S women is now championing menopause and raising awareness.
