Surely, if it just a thread rather than a board this would mean reading through the whole thread - I speak as someone who has read through the whole Burning club thread!    If there was a separate board for the post menopausal then individual topics can be covered in different threads within that board, but specifically for the post menopausal,  and, in time , it would be just as beneficial as any of the other boards.

My understanding is that the remainder of our lives after final period constitutes "postmenopause", though the term seems to be used officially to mean the time beginning 12 months after final period.  We will be living with the consequences of lower levels of sex hormones for the rest of our lives.  Exchanging info on how we each deal with that as individuals seems to me invaluable & if a separate section of the forum will be helpful to some members it would be good to have that provision.  We can still continue to read/post in any section whatever side of final period we are  :).

https://www.medicinenet.com/postmenopause/definition.htm

"Postmenopause: The period of time after the menopause. The postmenopause is formally defined as the time after which a woman has experienced twelve (12) consecutive months of amenorrhea (lack of menstruation) without a period.

The average length of the postmenopause has been increasing. With greater longevity, a woman will soon be postmenopausal on the average a third of her life."

Thanks, really helpful and useful points. The other thread got a bit muddled with everyone weighing up pros and cons based on the initial content, I imagine. I just aimed to simplify things right down with this thread, yay or nay and then I'd be delighted to flag it up to Emma and Dr. Currie can take it forward as was going to happen previously. If, however, anyone else wants to take it to those who can make it happen, that's, of course, fine too! 😊

I would be very happy for you to flag it up and make it happen Postmeno3. Thanks for reintroducing this.

There are currently 14 boards. I'm not against a post meno board but could we swap it for another one? Looking through all of them is too time consuming and that will get worse with an additional one.
Can we have a 'swap' as well as yay or nay?

There seems a concensus generally that postmenopause goes on for much longer than is thought and symptoms may be put down to ageing and subsequently go undetected or attended to. It's also a stage in life when issues can develop which may be emotional, subtexted by depleted hormones increasingly. For me, personally, a symptom search in isolation may not reflect what is going on in postmenopause. It feels like a separate stage, personally, each stage prior having its own continuum, possibly more readily "clinically" defined earlier on. Hope that clarifies, but others might be able to help with their take on postmenopause's differing challenges? Having a section just for postmenopause could prove a useful resource for those not there yet, too?

Postmeno3, do you think that when a woman is well in postmeno, she can develop emotional issues?  If that's the case then it would be a lot worse than peri.  I see the menopause as a phase and I am nearly 2 years postmeno and I'm beginning to feel better emotionally.  I can't bear thinking that my emotional/mental health will decline, say, 5 years down the line, simply because my orstrogen level is depleted.  By this time I do hope that my body will have fully adjusted to its new oestrogen level.   If I was to develop emotional/mental health issues later on then life would be pretty awful.  I really hope this won't be the case.  I know a few ladies who are well in the postmeno years and they are doing absolutely fine.  The menopause is a natural stage in a woman's life which cannot  be avoided but it shouldn't be seen as a life sentence.

Sheila99....just let us know what's needing swapped if I read you right? That would be great, thanks.
KarineT....thanks for posting. I was very careful indeed to say that issues CAN develop and MAY be emotional due to hormone depletion, so I'm sorry if that felt inaccurate in some way for you. I don't think anyone is seeing this stage as a "life sentence", but one which might be helped, should later issues develop, with the likes of a board devoted to any challenges arising for those to whom concern or curiosity applies.

This would be a great idea. I'm post meno & although this site has helped me enormously there isn't much for me anymore apart from offering my support to the younger members who are just starting their journey.
I suffer from Litchen Sclorosis, V.A. but still being supported by a great doctor who allows me to continue taking HRT with regular check ups.
I've had several scares in the last year (polyps, PMB etc) and got through it but it didn't feel right coming here for support or advice as it's more for the menopause - but I still feel there could be a place for the likes of me.

Hopefully Emma can help us & get it set up.

I'll be watching.  8) 8)
