Ovary pain
« on: October 09, 2021, 09:10:55 AM »

I know I posted something on this last year.

Here's where I'm at - been trialling numerous contraceptive pills to help my peri symptoms. Nothing has worked, so I've now stopped the pill ahead of a private appointment later this month to hopefully look at alternatives.

I am expecting numerous horrific symptoms after stopping. This is what I experienced during a 3 month break last year.

I stopped 3 weeks ago and this week am experiencing mild ovarian pain (I did used to get ovulation pain which would last approx 24 hours). Today the pain is a lot more intense.

Last year, at the third month off the pill I ended up at out of hours with severe ovary pain for a good 4 days. They didn't seem concerned and it did go away.

So, I guess I'm just wondering if this is rebound affects after stopping the pill and my ovaries having to fire back up. Or if this is my new normal for my now older ovaries or if something else, like a cyst might be playing apart.

Does anyone get quite bad ovulation pain each month that lasts days??? Like I say, it does go away...

Also, if I go onto hrt... Would this help with a symptom like this??? I can't see how it would 🤔 but then if I'm low in a hormone, maybe my ovaries are ha ing to work harder...

Appreciate anyone's thoughts. Thanks x

Does nobody get this??? Should i be worried. Its past for this month now...

Will hrt potentially help? Is it a hormonal imbalance???

Hi CrispyChick,

Never been on contraceptive or hrt. But I have suffered ovarian pain and endometriosis.
For me the first time started at age 25 years old. I would wake up in the middle of the night like someone had just stabbed me. I went to my doctor, she wasn’t concerned, I’d then had mid cycle bleeding. Back to my doctor and sent for a ultrasound. They found 4 ovarian cyst, two small, one size tennis ball and one larger then a tennis ball. One month later operated on, one had attached itself to me.

The next was age 40, just had the stabbing pains, that comes and go. But it was different from the first time, as these pains started to come every day. Saw specialist again, found small cyst on ovaries. I decided to go for a keyhole operation. Which they abandoned the operation, as endometriosis was found. A year after that had a hysterectomy but still got my ovaries.

And my ovaries still give me problems. Getting better been 3 years now, but still get the odd days when I can feel a dull pain that comes and goes. Still getting ultrasounds to keep an eye on them. Now that’s my story.

Can I ask you a question? Does the ovary pain comes when your due for periods and when your ovulating? I got told from gynaecologist that when endometriosis gives you that pain. I do also wonder why my ovaries still give me a couple days of problems each month, and wonder would I normally have periods? My doctor won’t let me go on HRT,she says the hormones would make my ovaries worse.

Hope you feel better soon

Thanks lyn

That's some story!! This particular pain is only during ovulation.

I've experienced ovulation pain since my 30s, but normally it would subside in 24 hours. This lasts much longer (about 5 or 6 days) and comes with intense bloating. This is my first month of ovulation since stopping the pill... It has now subsided, as has the bloating. It was month 3 that was horrific last year and one of the many reasons I retried a pill.

Perhaps I should do one more month then make doc appointment if still bad, or worse.

I'm about to see a bhrt specialist as I have many peri symptoms that cause me daily distress. This ovulation pain is just an add on, but like you, I'm worried hrt might make it worse 😬.

Thanks so much for replying. I think cysts are in my mind. But I've also read they can go away. Suppose that's how your gp approached it before scanning u. So really, it's the scan that's important!

It’s difficult to know isn’t it.

I get ovary pain that’s like a sharp stabbing pain that comes and goes, apparently in their fight to keep going before packing in I’m told.

Are you off to see a menopause specialist?

Hi floo

I'm going off piste to a bhrt specialist  ;)

But needed to come off the pill first for blood tests. That's me 3 weeks off now. 😬

I actually wish mine would just pack in. I'm not a fan of this roller-coaster!!!

CrispyChick,

With all the ultrasounds I’ve had since hysterectomy, I’ve been told they should go away by themselves, but always do another ultrasound in three months. Just last scan I’ve actually allowed six months in between. Even though one cyst look like it had blood in it? My appointment is for next Friday.

Interesting how your pain is when you are ovulating and the bloating. I had bad bloating when I had endometriosis, but the pain should be bad with periods as well as ovulation? I would just see how you go and keep a record. The only trouble with endometriosis, they can only tell if you have it, with keyhole surgery. And they wouldn’t do that unless they thought it was endometriosis.

Let us know how you get on  :)
