Hi, I was on Elleste duet Conti tablets & topping up with estrogel 4 pumps a day to alleviate my hip/sacrum pain. Dr prescribed me Everol Conti patches, absolutely rubbish! Wouldn’t stick to my skin, kept falling off me all the time, she only gave me 50mcg so all my pains came back & I was miserable & struggled to walk. I ditched the patches & went back to my tablets & gel. I tried to get a consultation 2 weeks ago with my gp but today was the earliest she could ring me for an appointment! I spoke to her this morning & told her that I wasn’t using the patches anymore & what my current regime is. She said from looking at my blood tests in 2018 that I am definitely post meno now so my own estrogen supplies cannot be dipping lower as there isn’t anymore being produced by my body. I asked why this specific pain was back again in my hip and she said it could just be the way my body is changing over time & that I may need to accept that I may have these changes😡
She also said that the way I was talking was more pressured & that I sounded angry. Of course I’m bloody angry! I want to have a functioning body without any pain. I’m not 90, I’m 53! She started talking about how I was feeling etc etc, I knew exactly where this convo was going. She thinks I’m depressed! Surprise surprise, she thinks putting me on anti depressants may help. I told her a straight no. I’m not depressed, I’m in pain & when i rub in the gel, within 1 hour the pain is gone.
She frustrated me so much that I asked to be referred to a meno specialist & she surprisingly agreed, probably to get rid of me 🤣 so hopefully I may get sorted out at point. Frustrating!!!

Given how much your oestrogen dose reduced it's hardly surprising your pain returned. Wait til she gets there - I bet she doesn't think she has accept it for herself. I share your anger.

Yep , know how you feel. No we shouldn't except pain. My Gp told me to do mindfulness !  I do, and it is good to do, but it is like saying - I see you have a broken leg -" have you tried mindfulness?". Women just are not taken seriously and viewed as neurotic.

Yes , we can't do what we would in our 20's perhaps , but health professionals must listen to their patients and not give out blanket antidepressants like sweeties.

In the meantime what exercises have you been given to help with the pain in your hip? I think this sounds like the sacroiliac pain I suffer from occasionally which causes hip and sacrum pain. I visit a physio every so often to help with this and the exercises and stretches really work well. This might help you too while you are waiting to get the HRT sorted out. Sorry if you are already doing this.

If the pain is linked to depleted hormones, what good is 50 from the Conti going to do?

4 pumps of gel is a lot as a top up dose. The specialist might suggest the spray as an alternative ( 1 spray equates to 2 gel pumps)

Hope you get sorted soon, these Gps seriously need to get trained on menopause !
