Stomach/Abdominal Pain
« on: August 18, 2021, 09:06:02 AM »

I started on Evorel Conti patches  at the beginning of June and everything was ok, apart from a few patches falling off until the first weekend in August when I was woken up, with the most horrendous pain in my stomach/abdomen which has continued everyday and ended up with me being at the doctors for over 90 minutes yesterday. Hurts like heck (polite wording) and I cannot sit or lay down and going to the toilet 7 times within 4 hours and burping a lot which is not me at all. Result was to spend 90 minutes yesterday at my doctors and being told to take Buscopan. I asked if it could be the HRT patches as that is the only medication I am on and was told NO. Has anybody else had anything like this? :'( :'( :'(

Hi Exec Ass. Sounds like you are having a tough time at the moment. Is your stomach pain like period cramps or higher up in the stomach? Have you had any bleeding on the conti patches? Also, how long since your last natural period?

I use buscopan and find it works well with stomach cramps. Have you started it? Sorry for so many questions!

I have tried Buscopan and it stops the cramping which is very low down. The pain is also across my lower back, but I am definitely not going to the toilet like I should be while I am on the tablets, only once a day which isn’t much for me. I haven’t had a period since 2014 and had to fight to get HRT for years, they even operated on me and monitored my heart etc until finally this year I couldn’t stand it any longer especially the pain I was getting when it felt like somebody had put a lit match on my skin.

Upset stomach and IBS symptoms when starting HRT keeps cropping up on here lately.   It's not just with patches either, it seems to be happening with gel too and a former member I am in touch with has developed diarrhoea with Lenzetto spray.

I have no idea why this is happening and my only personal experience of it was when I experimented with an oestrogen mega dose.  It caused very loose bowels/diarrhoea - apparently it only becomes diarrhoea if you pass more than three bowel movements in 24 hours.  In my case, I think it was probably because I had taken far too much oestrogen but I'm not sure that this is the case with everyone.

Could it be oestrogen receptors in the bowel over reacting?  Have a Google and don't worry, it's a common problem and if it doesn't ease off, you could try a different form of HRT.

I agree Mary, stomach issues do seem to be an issue when starting HRT.
I tried to increase  to the 100 patch over a month ago and within 24 hours, was doubled up with abdominal pain. Had to take buscopan also. In the end, the patch came off and the cramps went away! Trouble is, I actually need the next dose up and am reluctant to go through that ordeal again!

Exec. I also tried Conti for a bit. Hated them. Gave me pain and extreme irritability. Didn’t last a week.

Remember there are lots of alternatives to try.
Sometimes the recommended 3 months, is just too long for some HRT.

Good luck  :)
