Thanks lamplighter
I think it must be the length I've been on it, over 20 years, that must be going against me, but as I had no problems on it, I still can't understand the enforced coming off it.
Roll on 1.30 today, phone appointment looming ☹️😀

Have that list ready as well as being prepared to ask for an appt. to a menopause clinic?  There is the option of an e-mail to Dr Currie on here too ;-). Good Luck!

Good luck Suza!
Stick to your guns and point out NICE guidelines which say that providing you have no contraindications then there is no cut off point for Hrt. Why should length of time matter if it works for you? It's so exhausting and humiliating having to argue your case each time but stand firm! As l said to my G. P last time it's also a matter of equality; if l were a man ( or transitioning) l would get hormonal support without argument!

Hi everyone
Just an update after my  GP telephone
dis-appointment this afternoon
No that's not a typo!!
Yet again I've been rejected for restarting hrt, the outcome was after writing to a gynaecologist my GP had decided I can't restart as I've been off hrt!!
I explained I only came off it as they told me I had to
Anyway to cut a long story short, after quoting nice guidelines, and asking why I was told to come off, she's going to send me a copy of the guidelines shes using .
She's also going to write to a menopause specialist as I asked to be referred to a menopause clinic, and she's also suggesting in the meantime I start taking citalopram, as she thinks I would benefit from it, as I seem to be getting distressed,(her words).
As I explained to her, I'm not depressed, hot flushes are not my only problem, and a low dose of hrt would cure all.
The saying of banging your head against a brick wall applies here I think☹️

Can you afford to send Dr Currie an e-mail for proper advice?  There R details of the charge in the black line above.

Your GP is completely incorrect.  ADs are not the 1st line of defence for menopause  >:( would be interested to know where she is getting her info from., I would be sending a copy to Dr Currie: if indeed your GP bothers to send it.

Also, your GP was incorrect in writing to a Gynaecologist.  She should have immediately referred U to a menopause clinic.  Are U able to source an appt. yourself, some don't require a GP referral.

Hi Suza

I thught I had already replied to this query. You have anther similar post and I answered on that one on June 21st or thereabouts re being over 60 and on HRT. If there is anything I didnt cover in that post that you would like to know then I would be happy to answer more :)

Very frustrating for you to encounter out-of-date thinking and such intransigence. I wonder what guidelines she is using then?

I'm sorry the decision went against you. Could you post her guidance and it's source when you get it? It's something that could have an impact on all of us.

Have another read of Hurdity's post on the 21st June in your other thread. There may be some info to help you.

There has to be a way. Looking forward to hearing what the reason is.

Oh Suza, I am so sorry - that's a real blow and must be intensely frustrating to come across such obstinacy in your GP.

Is there any chance you could ask to see someone different?  Or even transfer to another surgery?  Not all GPs are such neanderthals.

The NICE guidelines seem to speak only of staying on HRT indefinitely, they don't refer to restarting, or even starting at a late age - I vaguely recall coming across something somewhere in my internet travels talking about the risks involved in starting HRT late, and also restarting after being off it for a long while (lots of the benefits no longer happen, apparently).  Don't mean to make you more despondent, just wondering if your GP is referring to these sorts of things as her 'guidelines'.

Don't give up - if you keep fighting you'll get there in the end.  :valkyrie:

I haven't read the whole thread, sorry, but wonder if patches were discussed? There are far fewer "risks" with patches where there are no co-morbid states. I have only restarted systemic oestrogen-only patches taking a letter from Dr. Currie along to the menopause clinic specialist I requested. Why not sleep on it all and, refreshed tomorrow, plan your next important step. It may be that the gp is not the right person with whom to do that, but as a stepping-stone to where there is current experience and knowledge. You are entitled to a referral. Note.....ENTITLED. It boils down to quality of life now after all. Rest up and start freshly motivated and determined tomorrow.

Thanks everyone for your comments and help, you'll all been very inspirational, helpful and informative. It's a pity you aren't all gp's 😀

Suza, your GP is talking complete BS so why don't you do your own thing and bypass her by having an online consultation with a pharmacist and ordering your HRT from them?

It's just a thought and it will cost (more) money obviously but it has to be worth a try.
