Foods and Atrophy

Hello ladies, does anyone find that certain foods can cause their Atrophy to flare. On holiday and thought I would have my favourite Lasagne. Was fine all day Friday, pure bliss and ate the lasagne in the evening. Saturday, burning all day. Sunday pure bliss again all day. Ate onion toastie Sunday lunch time and in the evening drank a sparkling blackberry and elderflower drink. Woke up this morning burning. Just trying to figure out if any foods are affecting my Atrophy. Why good one day really bad the next?.  Thought maybe the acid in the drink. See the practice nurse next week for an HRT review so may ask her. Hope she doesn't take me off any of my treatments and is nice. I couldn't manage without them. Replies and thoughts appreciated.

Did U have the runs after these foods?  How is your urine?   Vaginal Atrophy affects the whole area: if your urine is acid then you may get burning on the outer labial region.  Making sure that you wipe correctly is important.

The answer is no ......... R U using VA treatment [it's early, sorry I can't remember  :-\].

Thanks CKLD,  it's a minefield all this. Have had the runs lately, thought probably from the health tablets I take. Been tested for UTI all clear. Trying to drink more water. Yes using vagifem 3/4 times a week in am.  Estriol mixed with Yes OB  sparingly, nightly and Balance Active pessaries nightly. Epaderm moisturiser as an when needed.  Trying to do all the right .

Try using the 'vagifem' for 5 nights straight 2 see if there's any improvement.  4 me it takes one small spot in the vagina that isn't covered by 'ovestin' to make me very sore.  Fortunately, the outer labial area isn't affected.  I am aware however, that my pee often doesn't flow where I expect  :o ...... which makes my buttocks sore  >:(

Thank you for responding CLKD. My problems are nearly all external.  Have sat nearly all day today and now suffering. Out for a meal soon so more sitting. No tomatoes or tomatoes based foods, no fizzy drinks. My burning is like a friction burn  after sitting. Nice when you do get a good day. Hoping tomorrow will be a good day.

Get a proper support cushion from a mobility shop, one with a hole in the middle 2 relieve pressure.   Friction from knickers won't help.

Hi midnight S.   I too have difficulty sitting.  I was dx'ed with provoked vulvodynia as well as  VA (one lucky lady 😖) which is quite common and sitting is a major issue   I've gotten to the point of avoiding sitting at all costs.  The joys of being female.

Anyone whose GSM causes marked bladder discomfort/cystitis type burning, might be interested in this link listing foods & drinks most/least likely to be problematic.  The entire site is a good resource too.

Perhaps the link doesn't work well  :o - are the column headings missing when you view them PM3?  Least bothersome LH column.  Most bothersome RH.  Excluding that lot could be an unwelcome prospect for some people, I know, but the list might help identify some foods/drinks we may not have considered potential culprits.  I cut out some of them years ago (& wasn't eating others anyway) when IC was very problematic for me & it did help.  Struggled to do without natural yoghurt which I'd been eating for many years for gut health, but unfortunately it does seem to be a bladder irritant for me these days.

Thank you for all the responses. Since cutting out fizzy drinks and tomatoes have had three better days. Maybe just coincidence. Now drinking much more water. Not so good today, but have sat quite a lot. CKLD suggested a cushion, I have 3 Putnams cushions and two which my sister made, slightly smaller. They have the cut out for the vulval area. They dowels ease the pressure. Also have a small donut cushion. Could set up my own cushion shop. Anyway, hoping for a comfortable 5 hour journey home tomorrow. Hoping things start to settle then. See the practice nurse on Monday for an HRT review. Just hoping she allows me to stay on all my treatment. Hope other ladies are getting relief.
