Long COVID Symptoms Seem Familiar
« on: November 29, 2020, 04:21:48 PM »

Hello ladies.

I have been at my science sites again and I have learned about a male doctor who has written an article in the British Medical Journal about Long COVID.

The doctor had a mild case of COVID but is still experiencing debilitating symptoms months later namely extreme fatigue, mood swings, fizzing sensations in his arms and legs, palpitations, a fast heart rate that goes on for hours and spells of dizziness.

I was struck by the similarity of his symptoms to those experienced by us menopausal women and I wonder if there is an hormonal aspect to the disease?

Wouldn't it be wonderful if research into Long COVID also helped with the understanding and treatment of the menopause.

Wishing you well ladies.

K.

Apparently the government are establishing clinics to treat Long COVID sufferers as there are about 60,000 people with this condition so far.

Hi Kathleen.

Thanks for posting, that’s very interesting. It does seem like there are quite a few cross over symptoms doesn’t it? Hopefully we can benefit off the back of further research, as you say. x

Hello Babspiglet

I feel sorry for anyone suffering these symptoms but  at least now a man knows how it feels!

Apparently there are about 60,000 people with Long COVID but I wonder how that compares to the number of women who suffer for years with similar debilitating symptoms?

No one was ever going to research the menopause but there will be research into Long COVID and hopefully any lessons learned may benefit us as well.

Wishing you well.

It also sounds similar to chronic fatigue which is often triggered by a virus.

Hello again ladies.

FrannyB -  I was just wondering if the virus attacks the Limbic system in the brain which affects mood etc.  We know we also have oestrogen receptors in the brain so perhaps there is a crossover element?

Incidentally we also have vitamin D receptors in the brain stem and there is a lot of excitement about Vitamin D helping to fight the virus and clear it from the body.

If Long COVID is an extreme form of chronic fatigue syndrome then all sufferers of CFS would benefit from more research and better understanding.

Take care everyone.

I'm a long covid sufferer. I'm also in Meno at 45.

I've also 9 other chronic conditions and now atrophy and lichen sclerosus.

Meno and covid symptoms not the same.

I think I'm cracking up with everything.

Hi ladies,

I had an antibody test and it has come back positive to Covid-19 in the past.  I am 9 or so months suffering with meno symptoms and struggling to get the balance right with my HRT.  I am presently on my 3rd regime and still struggling.  I recall having shortness of breath, chest pain, nausea, loss of taste and smell, fatigue and generally feeling unwell in April 2020 (symptoms all pretty much still with me) and testing wasn't widely available. I didn't suspect Covid because I was convinced it was menopause because my GP couldn't assist. The GP after x-rays to my chest ruled out anything sinister and offered ADs.  The shortness of breath comes and goes but no way near as frequent,  The chest aches/pains are still there along with the muscle aches, fatigue and nausea is still there.  The only thing that has altered is my sleep even though I still wake at least once but better than before.

I am now wondering if my symptoms are long covid with meno symptoms thrown in for good measure and wonder whether this is why I am struggling with finding the right HRT.  Its a minefield indeed and no one to turn to because of course no one knows anything about Covid right now this is why we are in the dire position we are in now.

So depressing - its the frustration with the lack of professional support (unless you are in the position to pay out lots of money) - if nothing else leads me to take ADs it will be lack of help!  :(

Hi ladies, the ME (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis) Association has published a leaflet about long Covid symptoms.
https://meassociation.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/Post-Covid-Fatigue-Syndrome-and-MECFS-September-2020.pdf

I had post viral syndrome (H1N1) along with perimenopause, the symptoms overlap and are chronic, I can't seem to be able to shift them.
