Just started on hrt - transitioning from anti d's
« on: September 03, 2020, 10:44:02 AM »

Hi, I'm 45 and have been in Peri for 5 years. After seeing a private specialist I have been diagnosed with Progesterone intolerance, which now makes sense as to why I have had mental health problems my whole adult life.
I am on gel and Progesterone and have just completed my first cycle. How long should it take before I see improvements? The hope is I can taper off the 2 anti depressants i am on as they are causing so many side effects :(
I've also struggled with terrible joint pains, worse than normal, on the 12 days taking Progesterone. The specialist is saying I can take it vaginally but I'm worried about how to do it  :-\
She also wants me on 4 pumps of gel but I'm only taking 2 because I'm worried that too much Estrogen will make it more likely for me to get bc.
Sorry for the long post but I don't have many people to talk to. Thanks for listening X

You chatter away, someone will be along ;-)

 :foryou:

Quality of Life is important.  Maybe go up to 3 pumps and see how much difference that makes?   The body doesn't get where it is suddenly so it can take a few days for the benefit of uptake.  It can take 3-4 months to feel improvement.

As oestrogen levels drop the muscles may become lax = aches and pains.  Also the body may dry inside and out  ::)

If you are progesterone intolerant ........... how many days did you take it for?

You're so right about quality of life and I am going to give it 3 months before deciding anything. I then need to make an appt with the meno specialist.
I'm taking it from day 17 to 28 of my cycle.
My joints are so bad :( I have oa anyway but I feel as though I'm 100 years old and everything is an effort/hurts!!

Hi Neerb74

First of all well done for trying to come off anti-d’s, that’s really admirable and although you may have some withdrawal symptoms if you persevere they will go.

Re joint pains I have them on the utrogestan phase too.  I recommend soaking in the bath, ibuprofen gel and taking utrogestan for the minimum your specialist is happy with.  Don’t worry about taking it vaginally just push it as high as you can (ovestin applicators are handy for this).  I would also build up to the 4 pumps of gel your specialist advises as achy joints can be a symptom of low oestrogen.

Wishing you well x

Thank you Perinowpost. It's been hard as I'm sure if the side effects are from the HRT or withdrawals. I'm pushing through it though:)
That's good advice about the Progesterone as I really could tell when I was taking it as get a feeling of being poisoned :)
Hopefully this method will make it less problematic to take!
