Nope.   ;D. Practical.  DH has made Bambi curry this afternoon  8)

None seen yet Hurdity.  Lots of goldfinches which are clearing the feeders every 24 hours.  Plenty of apples around for Winter visitors.

A blackbird with a white feather or two on his right wing come in our garden especially in winter. In may 2018 he and his "wife"have built their nest in a cozy corner here in the yard and we could see three little ones peeping from it. So cute!
And now we have new adorable visitors: redstarts. Then there are doves, pidgeons, magpies...

Years ago, in my parents' garden, goldfinches used to came in search of birch seeds in spring.

Near home there are squirrels and in a large green area in my parts I've seen a fox and a few pheasants.

I love Nature.  It has always been part of my history.

Sparrow hawk flew over again at 3.30 but I've moved the feeders  ;)

Hope the birds come back to my feeders, they usually do but it's been well over a month since we've been here, the red deer are also coming right down to the lodge of the hills to feed now,bit scary in the dark mind you, they're huuuuge

It's probably best not to feed intermittently at this time of year jaypo as the birds use up energy trying to find feeders.  None are at Mum's garden now since I stopped feeding 12 months ago.  The blue tits nested again though  :-*

Think of the miles they may need to travel and the energy they will use.  Have a look-see at any other gardens locally - make a note of any bird feeders etc..  I'm all for helping our birds and worry if we are away for more than 2 nights  ;D but I stopped feeding those in Mum's garden as there are others doing so down the road.  Her garden was full for years  ::) ........

Does it matter that we are in the middle of mountains and forests? I mean it's completely surrounded, there are a few people who have feeders but not many

Not really.  There will be a certain amount of wild food ........ have a listen this morning and see what you can hear, that will give you an idea as to whether birds are looking for food.  Of course it's lovely watching them, I get a lot of enjoyment and miss them at Mum's.  Also some food stuffs will be seasonal so that the nestlings are fed at the same time, i.e. caterpillars.  What we do is bulk up what is available which can be a Life saver.

Is your site Managed, if so in your situation I would ask if someone could top up the feeders whilst I was away.

Thanks clkd,I appreciate your wealth of knowledge, site not really managed as such,it's private,oh well, maybe I'll just stick to feeding them when we are up on a more regular basis 😢 I'd hate to do more harm than good

I don't think it will be harmful unless the weather is truly awful, i.e. deep snow, gusts, drifts but they do have to work harder between feeders ...... bit like going to Valerie Patteseirre and finding the doors shut ;-).  Have you listened yet to hear what is about?  R U up yet ....... I am.  Kind of  :D

It's eerily quiet clkd, why would that be?if you saw all the trees here, I mean there are forests surrounding us but I can't hear one little bird,a robin came to say hello on our balcony 😊

Some forests are empty.  Until you stand and look up.  Though when we went to a forest on Anglesey we fled.  It was SO silent and eerie  :o and I've not been back to Anglesey since.  Too flat for 1 thing.

Feed the robin, live meal worms go down a treat ;-) water is the most important issue in cold weather.
