:bounce:   BLASTED heron didn't get them all >phew<.  Could see 3 in the middle pond and 4 in the bottom 1 - we spent 2 hours putting wire over the top and need to make that look tidier over the next few days.

Analee is it a female black bird ?

When I went into the garden this morning the birds were singing their Autumn songs and the squirrels were busy in the trees stocking up ready for winter  ::)

A young blackbird?
Some form of 'thrush' - it's not a redwing though
Maybe look on the RSPB web-site?

Had to put more wire over the pond earlier as the heron had been around  :-\

If you say where in UK you are (or elsewhere) then at least it gives an idea of what it could be. Did you take the photo and is it in your garden?

Young blackbirds  :-\  .......... thrown out of the nest by the parents to fend for themselves.  I had 3 young followed by 2 more of a later age in the Summer.

Young blackbirds don't flock though do they? I think these are fieldfare shaped and flocks can arrive in September although October is more likely. That garden does look more autumnal than mine though. Must be further up central England!

Looks like a female blackbird but I'm no expert.
My partner has had them coming to his for years for currants, they get so cheeky on the windowsill if I don't chuck them out xxx

Do a 'google' i.e. fieldfare and for redwing ...........  the most blackbirds I had at one time this year was 5 - all from the same pair but two litters.

I am intrigued now .......... a flock at this time of year are usually 'visitors' passing through, maybe have a look at the local Nature web-site to see what's around in your area?  Any twitchers ?

Analee - it looks like a solitary garden bird of the chat/thrush family. Fieldfares and Redwings flock but don't come into gardens except in exceptionally cold weather. The solitary garden birds of this type are Blackbird, Thrushes and similar Starlings (though not in thrush family). It can't actually be anything else. Was this picture taken a couple of days ago in your garden? If so more idea of habitat is needed and surrounding countryside of where your house is located.  Would be a bit early for Fieldfares as Taz says (we probably won't see ours until November) and as she says the pot vegetation looks dead (sorry - autumnal!) so maybe you're not much of a gardener? Mine are still burgeoning - overflowing with flowers.

Earlier up it was stated: It was a flock of about 12 and they were more of a darkish grey/brown. They sometimes come this time of year for a couple of days - as for plants 'going over' some of mine have been caught by fierce winds.  I haven't bothered growing petunias as they get sticky and I can't be bothered to dead-head them, however, other plants are thriving despite the wind.

Good advice from your tech guy about giving away too much information, I can't believe how many people on Facebook tell the world and his wife that they are on holiday  :worm:

Asking if you can identify the bird just brings out our inner Miss Marple  ;D

It amazes me how easily it is for thieves to find out where people live and when they are away ....... social media has a lot to answer for!  However, it's up to the public to take some responsibility.   :bang: :bang: :bang:

someone above wrote:   "and as she says the pot vegetation looks dead (sorry - autumnal!) so maybe you're not much of a gardener?
