It is a bit confusing but I mentioned the garden looked more Autumnal than mine and that was due to the vegetation in the pots and Hurdity's reference to Analee not being much of a gardener was probably due to the fact that if you are a gardener then pots are still doing well at this time of year. I'm not a gardener so mine aren't but my neighbour's pots are still really pretty. At the time we didn't know that the garden in the photo wasn't Analee's.

Why did anyone need to make an insult about the pots?  It's about the breed of bird  ..... I have gardened since the age of 5, my family has made compost for over 150 years ......... and some of my pots, have indeed, gone over.  Because they are the types of plants that 'go over' at this time of year.  Your neighbours may have bought in new plants from the garden centres which are specially grown to be sold at cut prices or half-price in order to allow gardeners to continue with colour for as long as possible.

Moving on .... our house-martins are STILL here - roosting in their nests - but won't be long now before they depart - as the autumn equinox arrives.....

PS yes sorry for the confusion CLKD that was the "sorry - autumnal" - Taz just put it politely - I just interpreted it further as vegetation dies back in autumn as we all know  My pots are still overflowing!!! Pity about yours Taz! Not too late for autumn planting though

I don't find not understanding the difference between being autumnal and dead confusing.  In order to avoid insulting others it would have been better to have read how the comments may have appeared to gardeners then go in to delete the 'dead' insult. 

It is obvious through-out MM  that some Members don't read previous comments correctly which makes their replies less than clear.

I should post in the garden thread!! I have been waiting for the time to come when I liked gardening but, sadly, now in my sixties I don't think it will happen. I've been trying though but it all takes up so much time and then the weeds grow back and I quite like the weeds but apparently you're supposed to pull them up. I've had great success with my catnip though. 

I don't mind about being misquoted - the outcome is the same. The garden looked more Autumnal than mine so I thought further North which might have meant early arrival of fieldfares which do flock.

I still think the vegetation in the pots looks dead rather than just gone over but I'm not even sure which type of plant they are which isn't surprising knowing me and garden knowledge.

CLKD - we discuss this every year (equinoxes etc) - I'm sure this was discussed in the spring?! Will post in detail on the weather thread - but if you did geog then you will know about it all anyway!

Blasted heron was sitting on the roof earlier  ....... we have put wire all over the water so he/she shouldn't be able to gain access.

Just seen a peregrine flying quite low over the village - being mobbed and seen off very successfully by a crow - while the rest of the flock looked on. An amazing sight

  - actually ours are fruit flies.  Lots of plums and apples in the kitchen, I moved the bowl earlier  .......... they might be wild but are not welcome in our kitchen!  Compost is full too but that's OK ..........

Oh I HATE rats and blue bottles    Since having cancer I try not to kill anything, as I had a 2nd chance.  But rats and blue bottles and more recently *that* heron  need to be AWARE

Today's warm sun seem to have woken up the flies.  The house is full of them.

Could they be cluster flies?
