Sat out and watched wagtails, blackbirds, pigeons courting noisily,  swans flying over head  back to river.
Herons on the wing back towards river, Sparrowhawk hovering.
Magpies, jays, crows etc....noisy hereabouts.
Watched Big brave Moggy chase a  Big bunny back into the field.
Once it had gone through the nettles he was satisfied and strutted back home...smug.
Busy place ..... :)

That does sound busy ladybug - it's amazing how much wildlife you can see if you just stop for a while.

I saw another stag beetle this morning whilst walking the dog - sorry Taz but whenever I see one I think of you (with affection of course),  :-*

Woke at 2.40 to hear something rattling outside the bedroom window - along the gravel.  Outside light flashed on.  Couldn't see anything but probably a hedgehog.  Found a jam jar so think it maybe had it's snout inside  ::) - note to self, put out water later.

No dawn chorus.  1 solitary blackbird at 3.45 for 20 mins.; dark then :-( - then nowt until a magpie clattered and chattered along the estate before landing in our curly hazelnut at 5.00 a.m.

There'll be no dawn chorus for a while CLKD - most birds stop singing in July as they are moulting. Strange to have silence apart from the blackbirds and magpies and, of course, the pigeons! I really miss the robin's song first thing.

Aha that explains it. I too had noticed how quiet things were in the mornings this last week or so. I never knew that they stopped singing because they are moulting - a bit like me really

... well apparently they stop singing when moulting because if you are sitting on a branch with your feathers falling off then the last thing you want to do is advertise your presence to predators...  Is that like you too Cazi???

Driving along lane yesterday there were 2 buzzards on the road.
Initial thought was that they were eating something, roadkill whatever.
Having looked a bit more, they were young buzzards, and hadn't perfected flying.
They were fine going along the lane, but couldn't rise to get over the hedges or get to a tree.
So we drove a bit, they would fly along the lane and sit down, on the lane for a rest!
One found a bit of grass to sit on eventually, the other went for ages before it found somewhere off the lane to stop.
This went on some time, us following the buzzards and we needed to get to a Drs appointment   ::)

The good news is drove along the same lane today, and no sign of dead buzzards so they must have sorted themselves out.    :)

Certainly a different excuse for a late appt.  ;D

On Monday we saw 2 black fish that the heron 'missed' - yesterday I found 3 in a different pond that I thought the heron had eaten :bounce:
