Adorable, in a gross sort of way.
I had a cat that used to bring me frogs, she would have adored them.   :P

They look like 'Simon's cat' from the cartoon  ;D  ........ we have frogs all over the patio at dusk during the Summer.

That's good CLKD!  I spent a lot of yesterday evening while at my sons house (BBQ) watching ladybirds emerge from their larva state. I had never seen that before. It is very quick. They wander around the leaves waggling their bottoms till they find a leaf they like the look of and then quickly stick their bottoms down and then, after about ten minutes, they start pushing and squirming and straining and gradually the ladybird emerges a little bit at a time.  They then wander off leaving the "skin" behind and begin to gradually dry off and harden and their spots begin to devleop. Amazing!

Oh Lucky U!

Something we saw recently; was a heron, he grabbed a large eel, let it go, stalked it through the water, poked it and carried it to the bank, eventually swallowed it - one could wait a life-time as a wild-life photographer for such a scenario - never have a video when required  ::)

Had to rescue a young thrush yesterday - it had managed to get in the greenhouse and get in-between the glass and the insulation.  One of the dogs had alerted me to it as he kept scratching at the side of the greenhouse - no idea how long it had been in there but it managed to fly out after having a rest on one of the shelves.

We fed one of the hedgehogs last evening, it arrived dead on 9.50 p.m. - we have live meal worms and it was chewing away  :o - will take the bucket of worms outside soon to see if it returns

It returned - snuffling around eating all the meal worms it could find - later I heard the other hog in a pot of jam - left out for the ants  ::) ........ wonder where they go in the day-time?

They go back to their sleeping sites CLKD in long grass, hedgerows, piles of cut grass etc. Did you know you can report any hedgehog sightings to this site http://www.hedgehogstreet.org/  They are trying to gauge just how many hedgehogs are left in the wild. They want sightings of both dead and alive hedgehogs.

We have lived in this house for twenty five years and for the first time ever we have no evidence of any hedgies. Normally we have up to eight visiting ones each evening and last year I released five from the local Wildlife Hospital. I wont be able to do that this year due to the fact that we did have a visiting badger in the spring which may account for my missing hogs.

We had a little frog in the garden last night. Daughter and I were sitting out about 11pm and saw something on the lawn. The something then hopped off.

We don't have any streams around us so I don't know where it came from.

You can usually set your clock by them CLKD so it's always worth watching out at the same time.

We did have a hedgehog last year but I think the dog frightened it off. She is a pest barking at things that scare her.
Little did the hedgehog know if it had said "boo" she would have run a mile.

Noticed on Saturday that a 4" stag beetle had landed in a plant pot outside and could not get out.  OH used the handle of a sweeping brush to gently help it out, it clung  on and he took it across to the trees and put it down in the grass.  Yesterday morning when I opened the house shutters, a stag beetle was lying on its back, dead of course.  It could have been the same beetle but can't work out why, if it was,  it came back to the house.  Anyone have any ideas?
