I'm sure that's true!  :)
We don't feed the birds, that's true but our garden is very wildlife-friendly and we have blackbirds, robins, thrushes, tits, wrens, finches, sparrows, magpies etc. etc. It's just the starlings that seem to have gone.  :(

Have you thought about putting up a nest box Bette?

TBH, our garden is so full of nests that I wouldn't have thought that it was needed. Did you mean a particular type?

Our great tits are in and out of the box so I have added live meal worms to the feeders as I don't know what time they stop in the evenings, it's 20.20 and the sun is out  :-*

Starlings like to nest in holes Bette - either in trees or in roof spaces. They are not ones for nesting in open bushes or trees so providing them with a hole - much as you can do for sparrows - might encourage them into your garden. A starling nest box should really be put right up against the eaves of the house. Info here http://www.rspb.org.uk/advice/helpingbirds/nestboxes/smallbirds/siting.aspx

Our great and blue tits stop feeding themselves around 8.30. The blackbirds and robins carry on until it is really dusk - mine are still pottering around under the apple tree. Goldfinches also feed late. Those mealworms will really be appreciated. I haven't gone down that route yet - spend enough as it is and once you start, well, you just have to carry on don't you!

Thanks Taz. I used to watch several pairs of starlings taking nesting material from our garden up under the eaves of neighbouring houses. I know for a fact that the holes are still there as no work has been done on the houses but only seen one pair this year. The birds themselves just don't seem to be around.  :-\

The abandoned baby badger I mentioned in a previous post has now gone to Secret World in Somerset together with some fox cubs https://www.facebook.com/pages/HART-Wildlife-Rescue/116648618390823
and the latest photos of young ones - including some rather beautiful owlets https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=355037134551969&set=a.335566733165676.85416.116648618390823&type=1&theater

Thats good news CLKD. Are BTO still doing the Cuckoo Watch where they asked you to log when and where you hear the cuckoo?
