There are some cheap magazines on the shelves for seasonal advice and the internet will let you know when to buy and plant seeds. Do U have a garden centre close by? We buy plants that are grown on ready to plant. I use Buckingham Garden Centre for ideas, or Sarah Raven.
Maybe make a list of what you like to eat, what space you have and soil condition.
We grow peas, all types of beans but there are never enough

. Bean flowers encourage bees. Don't do well with tomatoes and cucumbers require shelter. Pumpkins are variable, we had 1 that wandered across the plot 4 'miles' 2 years ago like a triffid

Parsnips, beetroot, Welsh onions ....... leeks. We avoid brassicas as we have too many trees over head and they get worm, as do carrots: there's a fly that attacks those.
Radishes which need thinning regularly
Nasturtium seeds to brighten up salads
Borage - blue flowers for salads and drink - bees love 'em
Marigolds - add to salads
Is there a gardening club in your area? have a look-C in your local gardens ;-) make notes. Let us know.
