Any advice on patch and gel together
« on: October 06, 2019, 08:24:18 AM »

I'm on evorel 25 patch and am  peri (47) and all over the place it seems, but over the last few months have felt the low moods, severe anxiety and hot flushes all creeping back in.

Gp has advised to try adding oestrogel as can add smaller amounts and see if this helps.

Has anyone else done it this way and how slowly do you add it, I've started on half a pump, thank you x

I haven't used it like this but since you are on a very low dose patch why not initially increase to 50 mcg  (or 37.5 mcg) to see if you experience any imporvement - or is the suggestion of gel because patches are difficult to get hold of? If this is the case then go for it although your absorption might be different. Ah I see you've already started - sounds like a plan - start low and slow for a few weeks especially if early peri. What progestogen do you use?

Hi hurdity

I didn't realize you can use estrogen gel and estrogen patch together ?

So I could try Estradot 50 and 1 pump of gel ?

I think there's someone on this site who does this but I can't remember who. But I don't quite see the point, why not either have a higher dose patch or else change to gel completely?

Sammiejane - this is what some specialised docs have advised from what I've read. if you've had a hysterectomy then you can try anything that works (with OK from your doc!). It might help re having different ways of getting oestrogen from two different methods if you've got absorption problems? I think as surgical menopause is a special case then worth trying something off-piste like that especially if gynaes have recommended it.

Hi hurdity

Given my age of 40 do u think I would do better on the combined pill as I had no issues on this previously and women have stayed on it till there 50 then swap to hrt and feel worse !

I'm so lost as to what to do I'm still in estrogel 2 pumps but shedding hair still and feel so foggy headed the patch estradot was good but think it was to much estrogen as my boobs were so sore to the point I was crying in pain ! So went back to the gel I have also tried progesterone for couple days but urinated a lot more and felt drowsy I took it at night orally don't amhave a womb so can't take vaginally but thought it would balance estrogen effects as I think I need all 3 hormones with having no ovaries !

Please your thoughts are appreciated as at my wits end
