Good luck with the fasting! Is it good, as in, does it work? I really need to shed some weight..
lowering my portions and going to be strict this month and see what I can do..

This morning I’m making hummus. I soaked 120g of dried chickpeas overnight, but you can use a 400g tin too. Just drain them before use. If you go for the soaked option, then you need to simmer in water for around 40mins, then drain.

Chickpeas, tin or soaked overnight option.
80ml extra virgin olive oil
2 fat garlic cloves, peeled and crushed
1 lemon, juiced and 1/2 zested
3 tablespoons tahini
Good pinch sea salt

This is so easy, all ingredients into a blender, blend and stop to stir, then blend again until the consistency you like. If it seems a little dry while blending, add a little water or from the chick pea simmering water to get the consistency right... keep in a bowl in fridge..
I cover bowl with a beeswax wrap, but just cover with a plate is good too.

I love hummus and will have with red pepper and broccoli for lunch. :)

I love home-made hummus!

We tried quite a few vegan recipes when one of our sons came to stay as he is going dairy-free due to bad eczema. I also found products available now that I didn't know existed like dairy-free biscuits, delicious dairy-free coconut milk yogurt, and not so delicious but passable vegan cheese from coconut too. Son was fed up at not being able to have cheese so we bought some and I was pleasantly surprised at how realistic it tasted - not like the real stuff of course but not bad. It seems commercial products have really moved on in recent times due to upsurge in vegans and people wanting to eat less meat/dairy food anyway. Nothing beats home-cooked foods from scratch though....

Hi Countrygirl, I make that amount, using that recipe and it will last me 4 or 5 days and that will keep fine in fridge.
That's a great idea for your daughter's lunchbox! 👍

Ill admit I've been buying the little tubs of it for her, as I thought it would be lots of ingredients but I just need the chick peas and the tahini and will give it a go, thank you x

Great! Much nicer home made I think and I’m not sure of the shop bought hummus but I think there may be some added preservatives?! Not sure.
Good luck with making it and post how you get on!
Once I started doing it I realised how easy it is. You can always adjust the ingredients a bit too. Sometimes I add some paprika. X

Ps has anyone tried Rocks squash/cordial. I've recently found it and it's the nicest orange squash I've tasted. X

Hurdity, I know what you mean, I've tried vio life vegan cheese slices and they're actually pretty good. I like a slice on rye bread with a little vegan mayonnaise.

Just made lunch for tomorrow. Another Gazpacho. It's really good:

6 ripe plum tomatoes, washed and chopped
1 red pepper, washed, deseeded and chopped
1 green pepper, same
6 spring onions, chopped
1 small cucumber or half big one. I peeled it and removed seeds as like better without
2 cloves of garlic
3 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
1 tablespoon red wine vinegar. I used cider vinegar as it's all I had.
A good pinch of sea salt

As you chop veg, put in liquidiser, leaving only olive oil till last, then whizz it and towards end add the olive oil.

I had a couple of empty passata jars that I've poured in to and store in fridge. Anything will do... just chill in fridge until ready to eat.

It's such a lovely chilled soup and nice with garlic croutons if you like that. X

Hi Jari, I've lost just over 2.5 stone since January so it's definately worked for me and I don't feel like I'm depriving myself. I feel that my sugary craving have significantly reduced although I suspect feeling better generally & sleeping better (although still not as good as I'd like) has helped reduce the coffee & sugar cravings!!

Oh no!! It's 800 calories for the 2 days & 5 days of mediterannean (ish) diet. It's not as bad as it sounds, my OH has been doing it with me (he's lost weight too but not been as good as me!!). In relation to weight loss/lifestyle I think you just have to find something that works for you, on non fast days we cut back of portion size which has made a big difference too.

Ah ok, that doesn't sound so bad then. I'll have to work out what I could eat for 800 calories. Thanks. X

As long as you think smart then you don't feel hard done by & can have a nearly normal sized portion. We have eggs at some point as they are quite filling, we are meat eaters so have lower fat meats turkey, venison, fish (prawns are low calorie so you can have a good portion). Michael Mosley's website & books are good, we have them all!! It's very interesting from a long term health point of view. x

Ok thanks Foxy. I will look him up. I think it's a great idea to have smaller portions. 👍 x
