While at my sisters the other week, I noticed she used her own cotton/polyester bags for fruit and veg instead of the single use plastic ones. I think this is a fab idea so I'm just about to do some research on which ones are best to buy and whether to go for cotton or polyester mesh. Does anyone on here use them? Any recommendations gratefully received.

Buy a roll of fabric, buttons, zips from a charity shop and make your own? We re-use the supermarket bags for Life regularly.  Well, they get as far as the boot of the car  .  I also buy cloth bags from Charity shops as well as large hand-bags from Charity shops when we forget to take ours and buy more books  . 

It's how plastic is disposed of in the UK ........... much of it's burned or recycled.

Maybe look round Charity shops, Oxfam in particular sells jute bags, some are recycled from hessian sacks which are long lasting.  I take old denim to a work group who cut and make bags for people on chemo to use, either to carry their drips or packed with small smellies etc. to cheer them up!

I don't either except for lose broccoli as it makes a mess everywhere! Hence why I'm looking a the Turtle bags.

Jari what is the green like in real life, is it a nice green rather than an insipid green?

Thanks I'm tempted to go for the lime green and a few of the produce bags. Might even buy the red or purple as well

The trick then is not to leave them in the boot of the car ?

Bags always stay in car boot as I need the car to get to any shops!!

Hi Yorkshire Girl.  I use Onya reusable mesh bags. They come in a little nylon pouch with 8 bags inside. My girls bought Us two packs and we have been using them for all vegetables and fruit purchases for the past nine years. They are easily washed in the washing machine. Probably look expensive but have certainly been worth it. We keep the items in the bags until it is time to cook/eat them

Oxfam have bags made from old sari material as well as laundry baskets from material which has been washed, cut into strips and curled round tightly. 

The trick YG is remembering to take them from the boot?
