Feeling low - can you help please ?
« on: October 15, 2018, 02:51:27 PM »

Hi ladies.  I've been trying  Premarin and Utrogestan (last 14 days of 28 day cycle).  I would have preferred to use a bio identical transdermal  oestrogen but the ones I have tried, transdermal and tablet form, have had a horrible affect on my digestive system and bowel.  The Premarin hasn't had the same affect but I'm not feeling good generally.  Nausea, palpitations, painful and sore joints, extreme tiredness etc etc.  My ankles feel particularly odd in that I think if I look down they will be swollen but they're not.....it's like a tight, aching feeling.  Instead of seeing an improvement, I feel as though I'm going downhill.  I've been keeping a diary and have only had 6 ok days during the last month 😞

I was wondering if anyone has any ideas of what I might try to improve things ?  I have got some Estradot patches which I haven't tried yet because I'm thinking of the effect they might have on my poor gut.

Thank you ladies.

:bighug:  The Change causes all kinds of problems  :-\

Maybe put the product name into the 'search' box on here to see what pops up?

Do you think it is the Premarin or Utrogeston making you feel so bad? Premarin didn't agree with me but there again lots of HRT didn't. They say give any HRT 3 months though which doesn't help when you are feeling rough.

I've just stopped Utrogestan, upset my stomach like no other.
Been off it now 3 days and I'm back to normal.
Also the ankle thing, I felt like my ankles were swollen, but when looked at they weren't.
Weirded. They did itch though, but that could've been because I had ankle socks on, and haven't worn any for months.
They too feel normal again now....

I have similar feelings in my legs...always expecting them to be swollen but aren't. Resting with them up helps sometimes. A nice gentle massage feels good to me or a hot bath with Epsom salt has been a frequent go to lately.
Small frequent meals can help with the nausea sometimes. And maybe try some relaxation techniques for the heart palps? I can't say that always helps me but I try.

Hope you get feeling better soon.

Thank you ladies.

Paisley - I think it might be the Premarin because I felt rough before I even started the Utrogestan.  The reason I thought I'd give Premarin a try was because I was on Prempak for a number of years which seemed to suit me quite well.  Do you mind me asking what side effects you had when you were taking Premarin? Because I'm not very knowledgeable about these things, I'm not sure whether the dosage is wrong (I'm on 1.25) or it just doesn't agree with me.

I've only been on this for a month but because I've gone downhill so much, I'm not sure there will be any benefit in continuing.

Thank you again.

It took for than a month for the Premarin 1.25 to settle with me and I chose it for the same reason, I was on prempak.  Are you on any blood pressure meds? I had to change those because I was getting swollen ankles and weird sensations in my feet.  I was on amlodpine and now on lercanidipine and the ankle thing has stopped.

Can I ask how old you are Rosie and what were you taking before?

Thanks for replying Ladybt.  I'm not on blood pressure medication.  My bp is always on the low side.  I'm 64 so getting on a bit now 😉. I've tried several different hrt's since coming off Prempak last October.  Evorel patches, Elleste conti, Tibolone and Femoston and although both Elleste and Femoston helped with symptoms quite well, the side effects on my stomach and bowel were as bad as the meno symptoms.  Hence trying Premarin.  How long have you been on it if you don't mind me asking Ladybt?

Thanks.

;D only kidding CLKD although I do feel older than my years at the moment.  I was lucky enough to be able to give up work 3 years ago and I had so many ‘to do' things on my wish list.  I took up Spanish classes, started to learn the piano but having to deal with all this meno rubbish is impacting on everything at the moment.  I need to find my mojo again but not sure how to 😞

Hi Rosie63
Sorry to hear you are suffering, hoping my hrt journey experience may be of some help to you! I too was suffering from gut problems since starting transdermal hrt but wasn't 100% sure if it was the patches or my fluctuating hormones. Tried to be patient to see if it would settle as I knew I couldn't be without hrt as my anxiety & insomnia was through the roof without it but the gut problems persisted. So after 4 months thought I would try and address the problem with a different approach .... diet! 3 weeks ago I started a wheat & sugar free diet with Aloe Vera juice & apple cider vinegar to aid digestion too & after a week I started noticing the difference. 3 weeks down the line & I have almost forgotten what it's like to have gut issues & im feeling the best I've felt all year. The book that really helped me understand how important a healthy gut is for so many different functions in our bodies is written by Micheal Mosley (The clever guts diet) definitely worth a read. Hope this helps & you're feeling better soon.
Much love

Thank you so much Crafty Kaz. Your advice is very helpful and I will definitely look into this.  I think I would be better off staying with hrt that deals with my meno symptoms and then, as you have done, dealing with the gut issues separately as I don't think I can cope with the way I'm feeling right now.

Thanks again and wishing you well.
