Hi and welcome to MM enchantedworld

I assume you have long term problems with constipation?  I believe the best way to help this is through diet.  I assume you have been given advice on how to change your diet to help with constipation?  lactulose is given for constipation or liver disease - do you have problems with your liver as well?

If your stools are simply too hard then there is Dulco Ease which may help?

A high fibre diet with plenty of fluids is the best way forward - so lots of fruit and vegetables, wholemeal bread, cereals and nuts etc.  Good brisk walking each day and possibly dance classes or swimming will also help enormously.
Many women do find that digestive problems start when the menopause hits so adjustments to the diet and exercise are needed.  DG x

I was taking magnesium for constipation (and for foot cramps) as I too was a long term sufferer.  Since changing my diet where I've added more fruit in I don't have a problem x

Hi. I agree with Dancinggirl and Annie - diet is key, especially fruit.  Prune juice also works really well x

Just to add, yes it's common to have slow transit when the ratio between oestrogen and progesterone increases.

Magnesium gives me the runs  ::)

HORMONES  >:(.  During my regular menstruating years 10 mins. prior to a bleed, I would have to find a loo, fast  :o with the runs.  Even when a period wasn't due.  So around that time of the month I couldn't travel anywhere.  I would get a sudden lower belly spasm and have to run, otherwise  :-X.  So bowel problems may be hormonally linked.

I have used 'motillium' for years which eased food through the system quickly.  I have also found Actimel really helpful.  Both need to be swallowed within the hour of eating the main meal in order to begin the digestive spasm.  Onions will do it for me, as I am allergic.

Brisk exercise.  Eating regularly with lots of fruits and veg though green veg. gives I terrible wind and pain.  Swimming can ease constipation, a mix of warm water and exercise  ;).  Plenty of good quality liquids, teas, milk shakes, remembering that food stuffs also dilute via the kidneys.  Review your diet, liquid intake ......... don't alter anything too quickly though.

Morning enchantedworld

If you are able to take them an Optibac probiotic (for every day) helps look after your tummy, along with the varied diet that has already been suggested.  Ground up flaxseed is great on porridge and cereal.  I try to live by Amelia Freer's book Eat, Nourish, Glow, not for weight control, but for gut health, which I would thoroughly recommend.  Having said that, I fell spectacularly off the wagon last night with a pizza and salted caramel ice cream, but it was the end of a glorious bank holiday! Salad, veggies and sardines for lunch today, which thankfully, I will enjoy just as much.

I really like Michael Mosely, its on my list of books to get, pleased you would recommend it.  I think we may have had a conversation recently about Fitbits?  I got one for my birthday, but scared to track my sleeping as it is so bad at the moment!

Use it knorman it'll shock you just how ‘Not” bad your sleep is lol honestly I'd no idea I was sleeping so well and the more I checked the Fitbit the more it reassured me.i bought his book along with the Pioppi diet book from amazon as they have an offer on they're usually about £8,99 each but they were offering both for £7 total so I grabbed them lol.
I so hope things improve for you I'm still faithfully taking my cup of redbush vanilla tea every night before bed it's made such a difference to how I cope day to day,got my old fighting fit me back hopefully.lol take care and keep me updated re your Fitbit in case I can help with anything. :foryou:

Thank you for my flowers!  This will sound mad, but I've not been wearing it to track my sleep as it is so bad at the moment, I thought it would have the opposite effect of making me more anxious.  I will start wearing for sleep as from next week.  I hope that like you, it will reassure me! x
