We don't have Prometrium here but if it's the same as utrogestan (oral progesterone capsules 100 mg/200mg) then some women use it vaginally off-licence as part of hRT. The dose is 200 mg x 12 days per 28 for cyclical hRT and 100 mg continuously (or with 3 days break) for continuous combined (no bleed) HRT. De[ending on your dose of oestrogen you may need more or less - under medical supervision. There are fewer side effects when used vaginally because it aovids the "liver first-pass effect" where it has to be metabolised by the liver first before being used by the body - this produces many metabolic by-products which can cause side effects. The dose can be lower when used vaginally, or the cycle extended (under medical supervision) if you are post-menopause or late peri, because research has shown that more of the progesterone gets to where it is needed.
