Post Menopausal
« on: November 12, 2017, 07:34:31 AM »

Hi is there anyone else who started suffering very badly 3 years post menopause? I had my last period 3 years ago but it's only recently that my symptoms have become horrendous. I'm now on my 4th week of hrt but not seeing much difference.

Thanks x

Hi Dotty, I'm four years post menopausal and still getting flushes and night sweats. I tried HRT patches in April but they gave me acute anxiety so I came off them in October. I'm now taking Vogel Menopause Support and nighttime essence. I just started taking them last week so early days. I also use vagifem for my irritable bladder.😬 I am the only one amongst my friends who has had this reaction to the Menopause.  They all seemed to have sailed through it. You can contact Eileen at Vogel and tell her all your symptoms and she will give you some advice. Good Luck. X

Thanks Carol. I'll have a look. I think hrt is the only answer for me as I have been so poorly these last few months.

Sorry to hear you're suffering. I can relate to some of it...I'm still suffering from anxiety and insomnia I was awake all night having my night sweats and watching my husband sleeping like a baby and wishing it was me.

You can take the Menopause Support alongside the HRT. I found it quite good to tell Eileen everything I was feeling and see what her and her medical team suggested. 😉

Hi Carol
The worst thing for me is this groggy, unwell feeling. It's dreadful and my life has just stopped. X

Dotty sorry to hear you are feeling so unwell, I know how debilitating it is.  Because you are 3 years post meno your oestrogen will have become very low and this will be why your symptoms have become manifest. For this very reason it may take a while for you to feel the benefits.  Also, which hrt are you on, sometimes it takes a few attempts to find the right one?x

Hi peri
I'm now on Elleste Duet Conti as the lower dose tablet wasn't helping. X

Hi Dotty

 :welcomemm:

As peri says - low oestrogen will be the cause of your symptoms. Following the last period oestrogen falls on average (fluctuates a little still) for the next approx two years and some women only start to experience symptoms at this point or they worsen.

Usually 3 months is suggested to try HRT or a new type - in order for side effects to settle and the benefits to be experienced.  Some women do find that continuous progestogens (that you get in conti HRT like you are taking) make them feel groggy, irritable, depressed or give them pms symptoms. If that's the case you can try another one as peri suggests or esle perhpas take a cyclical HRT - but the disadvantage is that you would get a withdrawal bleed (like I still do in my 60's!  ::) )

Other ways to help you feel better are lifestyle measures including  losing weight if you need to, eating healthier diet, reducing alcohol, stop smoking (all if necessary!) and above all lots of exercise especially in the open air, and reducing stress

Thanks Hurdity.
I was doing really well until this hit me a few months ago. My diet was good. I don't smoke or drink and I was exercising. All that has stopped as , at the moment, I don't feel like eating and I'm not well enough to even go for a short walk.

I just wish I could feel well again . X

Dotty for what it's worth I tried elleste and felt worse.  Although it is recommended to stick with it for 3 months I didn't as I just couldn't.  Interestingly when I went on my current regime evorel 50 patches I felt better very quickly.  Also from what I've learnt from the ladies in here, there seems to be much more success with the gels and patches.  They're also much better for you than tablets (don't go through the liver).  Don't rule out changing your hrt you deserve to feel well x

Hello Dotty.

I know how you feel. I am also post menopause and I've been taking Tibolone for about six months. I still have phases where I feel terrible with flushing, internal shaking, 'morning sickness' etc. I'm in that place now and I hate it. I keep a diary and I see that I also have good spells where I feel much better, I just wish they'd last lol.

Sorry I don't have any solutions for you but I wanted you to know that you are not alone and yes, my symptoms also got a lot worse three years after my last period.

Take care.

K.

Hi Dotty
As you are post meno and you started HRT with oestegn levels really low, it probably will take longer for the HRT benefits to work their magic.
Taking conti HRT, as you are, can sometimes be more challenging for some women and if you don't feel better in 3 months I would try Oestrogel with a seperate progesterone.
Keep us posted. DG x
