I'm interested to learn if it's possible to conceive during peri?

I was at school with a person who was younger than their nieces/nephews because the mum had been “caught out” during menopause,  having believed she had an abdominal problem she turned out to be pregnant. She had already had children before, of course ( hence the nieces and nephews).I  believe it is generally possible to get pregnant. They said to use contraception until one full year period-free when I was at peri stage.

However, I guess it all depends on your personal circumstances as to your own likelihood. I expect someone with medical expertise will let you know the likelihood.

Yes it is possible to conceive in peri. Contraception has to be used for a year after the last period if you want to avoid a pregnancy -
 and two years I believe if you are under the age of 50. The oldest naturally occurring pregnancy in the UK was 59 I think and she was on HRT.

A lot of women put their pregnancy symptoms down to the menopause. I work with a lady whose neighbour was 24 weeks pregnant at the age of 51 before she finally discovered that the tiredness, indigestion and bladder problems were down to a pregnancy and not the menopause. She hadn't had a period for eight months before becoming pregnant. The baby was fine, once they got over the shock, both mum and dad enjoyed their surprise addition to the family.

Just to add that it will also depend on what HRT you are taking, as well as your age - the younger you are the more likely? The usual types of hRT do not normally suppress ovulation and therefore your own cycle can carry on in the background. Also some HRT types can partially suppress ovulation - or in some women - eg those who use the Mirena coil, and some of the very high dose oestrogen HRT types.

I was advised that it is possible to get pregnant during peri and I think that's one of the reasons why they suggest the Mirena coil

My doctor did suggest I take extra precautions when I started the Elleste Duet 1mg, to be honest sex was the last thing on my mind

Just adding a question on to this. If someone was to fall pregnant, and was still taking femoston would they then skip periods?

It's unusual to still continue with periods while pregnant I would think as the shedding of the womb lining would also shed the pregnancy?

Basically I've missed two periods, got tender breasts, feeling nauseous, tired etc. But was told it's very unlikely I would fall pregnant. So it's just wishful thinking lol. I might take a test tho just to clarify it in my head. X

Get a test done?  Then maybe Jesh keep a mood/food/symptom diary to see how you feel on a daily basis?

I just make myself feel silly for taking a test when the docs say it's such a low chance. X

Don't feel silly.  Your feelings are justified!  Why worry when there are tests available? 

My periods waxed and waned for years - several months without a bleed then several ........
