Racjen, yes you are so right re affects of hormones on brain chemicals and how the medical profession react, i have felt many times that they listen but are thinking otherwise, a lot more education on this topic is needed!! makes me cross! Sorry to hear about your diagnosis but it's good to hear that you can have your hrt :)

I got my life back thankfully from being on an AD. The first start up week was a bit grim but since then never looked back. Hopefully you will settle soon,if not there are others you could try.

I'm not sure I'll stick this.  My stomach cramps are so bad I've had to go to bed and am panicking that I won't be able to function tomorrow when we are due to go out in the evening.  If I still feel this bad I won't.

I should have remembered how bad Citalopram made me feel.   My stomach used to be like a rock, I was never troubled by anything.  But since the Citalopram I've had regular bouts of cramps and am obviously overly sensitive to medication like ADs.

The experiment is over for me I feel. But oddly, I do feel a bit better mentally - I just feel physically awful!

Rebel2, I have heard that ADs can take up to six weeks to become fully effective.  I've also heard that start-up effects like nausea and worsening anxiety can last for a couple of weeks but should diminish.

If you were feeling better mentally that soon, I would take that as a positive effect and maybe cut back your dosage for a couple of days since you have plans to go out?

Do you have IBS?  I have IBS-D (predominantly diarrhea).  I've heard the SSRIs are better for people who have IBS-C (predominantly constipation).  Zoloft is supposed to be good for IBS-C.

But, really, if you were feeling that good that fast, I'd find a way to slowly build up.  Most people are expected to feel worse with anxiety and mood before they feel better on an AD.

Lots of hugs to you!  I'm rooting for you and all us of to find the treatment that will make us feel better!

Patience x

Apparently my early mood lightening was a placebo effect as I have only taken 25mg for three days.   But on that basis I figure I can manage without them.   Taking action seems to work for me - I felt better for making the decision to start them and now I feel better having given them a very brief go and decided not to continue.

I know there are those who will tell me to press on and try for longer, but I felt it wasn't for me on Citalopram last time and now I know I can't go through it all again.

Thanks for the support.

I found mental relief after being on an AD after 3 days.  Was warned it could have taken 10-14 days to kick in.  Whether it was the fact that I had been listened to or a result of taking that AD I will never know.  It gave me my Life back.  Some ADs however I couldn't tolerate due to the feeling of sickness (emitophobe) so had to stop them instantly.  Others have worked well.  It's the Trial and Error when I needed help that was so tiring  :'(.
