Oestrogen dominance???
« on: November 02, 2017, 03:40:34 PM »

Hello ladies me again!!! As you all know I'm due to start 2nd try at hrt soon but because my main debilitating part for me is the inability to get to sleep so I'm a bit dubious of starting it..only because the inability to fall asleep rather than stay asleep is too much oestrogen so surely adding more oestrigen will make sleep worse?? Also depression and anxiety worse as I found with the oestrigen part of femoston.  Can I not just add progesterone only as if it's excess oestrogen it could be too little progesterone...I cant find an answer to this as most people have too little oestrogen and not too much and have problems waking early but not getting to sleep.  Thank you

Are you peri meno? If so, your hormones will be fluctuating and having a low dose of oestrogen can balance this.
It is very unusual for oestegen to affect sleep negatively - it usually improves sleep. It's progesterone that can sometimes disrupt our sleep.
Some do find that it's coming off the progesterone, when on sequential HRT, that causes the low mood for a couple of days. Progesterone can have a sedative effect for some women and some women seem to feel better taking progesterone all the time , however you can't take a conti HRT until post meno.
Dropping off to sleep is a common problem- I assume you have tried all the recommended strategies for helping this eg getting enough exercise through the day, relaxing before bedtime and sleeping in a dark, cool room?
If you want to have continuous progesterone , then why not have a Mirena fitted and then just add oestrogen as or when needed? This can sometimes help in peri.

Your post struck a chord with me. I had terrible insomnia back in May for about 3 weeks. I am perimenopause and had no other symptoms other than anxiety but was put on HRT Duet. This made the insomnia and anxiety ten times worse;  so the GP told me to come off it straight away. I wonder to if my oestrogen surges . I ended up on Nitrazapam; one of the old fashioned sleeping pills. It gave me a good 6 hours a night for a week so I felt more human again. I then reduced the dose over about a three week period and found me sleep cycles had kicked back in again. The 'Z' drugs didn't do much; only 2-3 hours a night. I do sympathise. I wasn't offered hormones testing either.

Thanks for your replies sorry it's not individual replies back.
I'm glad you got some sleep on nitrazepam that's all it takes sometimes to get your sleep routine back just a week of sleep meds sadly not in my case..as mine is something lacking or too much of that stops my off switch working no matter how tired. Shame they can't find what!
I don't want the mirena I had a very bad experience with one years ago and no way am I going through that again. I will have to try the 1 pump oestrigel I guess even though it made my depression and anxiety worse on femoston but like you said maybe it will even out as I am peri and still having periods albeit coming early and late.
The tibilone sounds fantastic but I presume its only for post meno ?
